Product Manager


Location: Melville, NY

Department: Product Management

Reports to: Director, Product Management

The Product Manager will have overall responsibility, within the Business Unit, to maintain and grow sales and profits for up to three product families. Product life cycle responsibilities from concept forward. Provides recommended pricing. Supports sales and provides marketing input.Promote product line growth principally through the creative use of both existing and new ideas supported by educational background, industry experience, and contact with customers and prospects. Possessing a unique blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality, manages several projects and has contact with virtually all departments within Leviton, as well as contract service firms as needed. Understand customer problems and identifies innovative product and/or service solutions to assist the broader market. The Individual will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for assigned products, occasionally working with the sales channel and key customers to promote Leviton and its associated product solutions.

Essential Functions:

1.   Has direct responsibility for managing new and redesigned product in active development.
2.   Responsible for examining, developing, and recommending product strategies for assigned product groups. Introduce new products
      as well as optimize profitability of existing and mature products.
3.   Champions research and analysis required for PAC, e.g. economic justification, competitive pricing, EAUS, financial models,
      features and applications, packaging, etc.
4.   Takes ownership and manages all elements of the product development process, including product specification, packaging,
      pricing, and phase out/phase in plans.
5.   Responsible to convene/attend weekly team meetings required advancing execution of projects and assignments.
6.   As required, attend sales meetings and visit customers and end-users; conducting product training presentations and research.
7.   Develops and amends market and product intelligence database for his/her assigned products. Shall be a source of intelligence
      concerning product and market specific issues, including the economy, competitors, and business trends via the Internet and
      appropriate trade publications.
8.   Responsible to examine and analyze product lines' performance encompassing, but not limited to, profitability, forecasting and
      inventory levels. Data from this activity shall be used to identify candidates for line simplification. As part of this effort, shall also
      produce sell-off report for his/her assigned product.
9.   Shall be fully knowledgeable of assigned product group and act in an advisory capacity regarding product information to Engineering,
      Operations, Marketing, Marketing Communications, Customer Service, Tech Line, and the sales organization.
10. Assists in the development of supporting new product launch material with Marketing and Marketing Communication Managers.
11. Shall maintain competitive cross reference of catalog numbers for assigned products
12. Demonstrates responsiveness, depth of knowledge and thoroughness in handling and responding to inquiries from employees.
      Responsible to provide an exemplary level of support to the sales organization and customers on product (technical and application
      questions).

1.   Must be self-reliant and possess excellent oral and writing communication and problem solving skills.
2.   Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with customers that lead to the sale of assigned products
3.   Ability to organize and manage “ad-hoc” teams to support the development of business opportunities
4.   Acumen in executing business decisions
5.   Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
6.   Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
7.   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public
8.   Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
9.   Ability to work in a highly confidential work environment; and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
      diagram, or schedule form
10. Strong mathematically, analytical and computer skills
11. Capable of occasional travel to attend meetings or visit customers.
12. Competent in PC, use including Microsoft Office products including Access, Internet browser competence and some limited
      Publishing Programs preferred.
13. A highly developed level of creative skills and resourcefulness to manage the product function isrequired. Must apply critical thinking
      skills to determine best approach to bring new products to market and to work with engineering, operations and marketing and sales
      staffs.

Education and Experience:

1.   A Bachelors Degree in a technical field or business field is preferred, along with a minimum of five years’ business experience.
2.   Knowledge of Leviton product line and channels of distribution.
