Role Summary
Through a combination of strong market, technical and business skills, the Product Manager will be instrumental in creating the framework for a successful product line in Russell Investments’ U.S. adviser-sold business, and developing market strategies for that product line. By gaining strong support from colleagues throughout the organization, this role will embrace the entire product lifecycle. This role will actively influence business management decisions regarding product strategy, product design, product pricing and development.
The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
- Evaluate relevant industry trends, the competitive environment, client needs, investment capabilities, and business requirements to develop product strategies. Monitor the business performance of the product line. Identify and evaluate potential product development or management opportunities. Collaborate with Sales Client Service, Strategic Partnerships, Marketing and Consulting Services to define the distribution strategy.
- Support product and overall business strategy by serving as a product subject expert, including technical product knowledge and product profitability, product placement at partner platforms and key market segments, as well as product competitive environment.
- Take a lead role and ensure effective coordination among PCS, the investment team, legal, risk, compliance, operations, marketing, and other stakeholders in product development and management activities. Take an active role in critical product management governance functions including SEC filings, Board of Directors support, and the annual 15(c) contract process.
- Ensure effective processes are in place and followed to support product management and product development activities. Develop reporting and data requirements to support product positioning and an ongoing product line monitoring.
The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
- College degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 8+ years experience in the asset management industry, preferably in an U.S. advisor-sold environment. Demonstrates ability to identify key issues, opportunities and threats; appraise commercial opportunities; design and interpret research; define product development priorities; and establish positioning/value proposition.
- Strong analytical problem solving skills and strategic thinking capabilities including ability to clearly define a problem, synthesize data to drive to fact-based insights and strategic implications, and develop compelling business cases.
- Experience establishing internal and external networks to develop ongoing stream of competitive and market information.
- Proficient in interpreting the financial components of products, including pricing models, revenue/profit models and budgets
- Knowledgeable in the technical aspects of US advisor-sold products and platforms, including managed account platforms, mutual funds, ETFs, separate accounts, insurance products and structured products
- Ability to interpret all financial and regulatory components of product development and management, including the creation of registration materials, offering documents and governance materials. Must have demonstrated proficiency in supporting mutual fund board of directors, specifically pricing analysis, board memo generation and 15c contract renewal process
