Production Database Administrator, DBA required for a Tier One Investment Bank - SQL Server, Oracle, Perl Scripting

The IT department plays a crucial role in supporting the success of the bank. The team is responsible for developing and implementing state-of-the-art software.

As a Production DBA, you will support the business critical applications, based on Oracle and SQL Server, deployed within the bank on a 24/7 basis. Your Oracle skills are important to support the trading application, but the majority of your work will be with SQL Server. Both Oracle and SQL Server are implemented on Windows 2003 and Windows 2008. You will support the application developers through the provision of database administration services. You will provide the required system base to support the development, testing and production environments. You will also ensure that all databases are maintained in a professional and cost effective manner and are available for the business.

You will provide day to day support of the database environment within the bank including timely and effective management of Oracle and SQL Server support calls as and when they come in to the DBA team. This will require interaction with teams on both an application level and a technical level to bring issues to resolution.
You will support the Charles River Order Management System at the database level on Oracle, and will also provide analysis and development support to the project teams.
On project assignments you will be working closely with other project teams and develop new solutions based on business requirements.

To be successful for this role the client has expressed that you will need:

Oracle knowledge at the physical level, experience including 9i and 10g on Windows.
Knowledge of Dataguard and RMAN backup and DR implementations.
Microsoft SQL server knowledge at the physical level, experience including 2000, 2005 and 2008.
Perl knowledge and ability to write perl admin scripts.
Ability to provide overnight on-call support for batch processes
Previous experience of having constructed a database for use by over 100 users which has been successfully and completely implemented and is still being used.
Experience of WAN-based replication or multi-site use over a WAN.
Knowledge of large scale fault tolerant system essential, specifically Windows clustering / SQL Clustering / Oracle OFS.
