Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies has an immediate opening at our Hopewell, Virginia facility for a Production Engineer. This is a great position for someone who enjoys the challenge in making improvements and driving change. Also, this position will work closely with unit personnel to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the chemical production units. Another exciting aspect of this position is that it will be heavily involved with the growth and productivity in the operating units. Honeywell's Resins and Chemicals business offers a robust product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities to a wide variety of customers worldwide. The 450 acre Hopewell Plant is the world's largest caprolactam plant, producing millions of pounds of finished products per day. Products include the nylon feedstock caprolactam, ammonium sulfate fertilizers, ammonia, cyclohexanone, and specialty chemicals. The plant contains virtually every chemical engineering unit operation and every class and size of operating equipment in the various stages of manufacture. The site is located on the James River near the city of Richmond and is convenient to Virginia and North Carolina beaches, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley and the DC Metro area. Duties Responsibilities:
- Responsible for improving the baseline value of key area metrics toward entitlement values (or beyond entitlement values where possible) through contributions to high-impact Six Sigma teams
- Responsible for execution of “Improve” and “Control” steps in Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve Control) process
- Responsible for restoring baseline values of key area metrics for which restoration attempts by the Production department have been unsuccessful (for problems other than mechanical breakdown)
- Accountable for implementing robust control plans for process improvement projects by fully utilizing DCS (distributed control system) capabilities
- Responsible for accurate production loss data entry into the Service Factor system
- Responsible for area DCS alarm management
- Assist with SOP and training material development
- Other work as required
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- 6 months experience (intern or coop) in production or process engineering in Chemical Plant or like environment such as; Refinery, Pulp Paper, pharmaceutical, or petro-chemical
- Additional Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in production or process engineering in Chemical Plant or like environment such as; Refinery, Pulp Paper, pharmaceutical, or petro-chemical preferred
- Six Sigma certification preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated ability to use influencing skills to accomplish goals and objectives
- Able to manage multiple priorities
- Knowledgeable of area process equipment, chemistry and controls
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Strong computer skills
- Lean manufacturing experience a plus
