POSITION SUMMARY
Consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives, and the Lean Manufacturing (WCM) system, provides the leadership and technical abilities to improve plant performance to world class levels of safety, quality, service and efficiency. To reduce cost through improvement of employee understanding and involvement and through technical and process improvements, strategic objectives for safety, and environmental stewardship. Provides the leadership to effectively lead all plant production and related operations in a manner to achieve maximum production and operating efficiencies within cost, quality, and service standards which will meet or exceed customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Reports directly to the Plant Manager, and is a key member of the plant management team.
• Assists, supports, facilitates, trains, directs leads and motivates to enable the plant to provide an accident free worksite while maintaining status as the preferred supplier of quality products and service with a goal of world class yield, availability, and reliability performance and to ensure that the principles of WCM are implemented.
• Ensures the safe, effective and efficient utilization of labor, materials, equipment, and in-process inventories in the production of all products.
• Is responsible for management, oversight, skills improvement and training of all department employees.
• Works in an effective and cross-functional manner with all members of the plant management team.
• Continuously evaluates production performance and focuses on continuous improvement of areas of non-compliance, with respect to plant performance targets and CertainTeed Gypsum benchmarking objectives.
• Leads focused improvement projects and autonomous maintenance training and activities to meet milestones and timelines.
• Assures good housekeeping practices, enforces plant rules and safety regulations, counsels employees, and applies the provisions of the labor contract.
• Coordinates production and customer demands with maintenance work and project implementation.
• Uses technical knowledge and experience in insuring proper functionality of all production systems.
• Has wide latitude to exercise independent judgment and discretion relative to production activity within approved Policies and Procedures.
• Identifies, researches, proposes, coordinates installation, and commissions capital projects and implements many smaller scale improvements.
• Has latitude for non-reviewed actions and the exercise of independent judgment and discretion with established policies and procedure. Shares responsibility for department budgets and performance.
• External contacts involve central engineering, sales and marketing personnel, vendor representatives and contractors, as well as customer and governmental representatives.
• Significant problem solving situations involve changes in products, processes, equipment, shipping schedules and personnel in a manner which will maintain or improve production efficiency, improve safety, product quality and customer satisfaction.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Industrial Management or similar discipline - or the equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures of a manufacturing operation.
• Requires 6-8 years experience in the application of this knowledge to production activities of which 3-4 years should have involved supervisory, scheduling and labor/employee relations activities.
• Relevant experience in manufacturing is required.
• Have the ability to provide Leadership and innovation at all organizational levels, adaptability, customer and supplier focus, good written and oral communication.
• Requires basic typing skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office /e-mail
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Will be responsible for plant operational budget and performance $1MM / year
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervises staff of approximately 4 employees, with directional authority over another 40 supporting positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Manufacturing Plant environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, stairs and ladders. Exposure to industrial noise, dust and temperature changes. Requires limited travel within Canada and the United States using airplanes and rental cars.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires wearing personal protection equipment as mandated in areas accessed. Plants vary, requiring considerable walking and may have some access limitations such as stairs, confined areas and rough terrain. Occasional lifting.
