Description
Judgment, resourcefulness, creativity, choice of action, critical thinking skills, and supervision received. This position receives all the necessary guidelines, policies and procedures to control production and supervise employees on a day-to-day basis. It is the responsibility of this position to inform and recommend, to their manager how to improve procedural activities, which can be applied in a cost-effective manner. This position must be able to promptly respond to malfunctions, apply own resources, expertise, creativity and plant-wide preventive procedures to ensure the least degree of disruption to the plant in respect to workforce hours, quality and production volume. This position should always recommend solutions and preventive measures to all issues experienced by the on-line employees. Major contacts (complexity, skill required, persuasiveness and business impact for both internal and external, i.e., taking messages to negotiating matters of considerable importance): High interaction with immediate subordinates to influence, train and provide further guidance and expertise. Also, high interaction with the maintenance department to directly assist in the resolution of malfunctions and production problems as it relates to a reduction of volume and decrease in quality. This position also contributes to the continued success of Philips and the plants commitment to Continuous improvement by applying effective communication skills which foster mutual support. This position must also provide and foster an environment in which communication from "the bottom up" is rewarded and positively reinforced. Since this position also experiences problem situations first-hand, it is of vital importance that effective communication be provided by this position so that problem situations can be resolute promptly. Financial impact (care and attention required, freedom to influence, and level of impact). This position has direct impact as to the quality of the product and the reduction of wasted resources and finished goods through the maintenance of quality standards. This position must also recommend on methods to decrease expenses that best suit the entire production of goods. Supervisory responsibility (positions supervised and nature of supervision (i.e., gives immediate and detailed instructions to gives broad direction). This position supervises employees directly involved in the production process. This position gives immediate and detailed supervision and is on a continuous basis directly involved with the entire manufacturing process (raw materials, integration of components and final production/assembly).
Responsibilities
a. Ensures the successful adherence to the plant’s daily and weekly production volume schedule through the planning and coordinating of all on-line production activities and the supervision of on-line employees. Adjust work procedures where/when needed to meet the Production requirements.
b. Ensures all problems/malfunctions on line, which prevent continued production levels from being met, are promptly resolved and recommends procedures based on own direct involvement and on-line expertise.
c. This position fosters Philips quality commitment to meeting customer requirements and improving job performance by applying the core concepts and tools of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous improvement (meeting customer requirements, cost of ownership, cost of quality, defect prevention, responsibility for own work and zero defects). It is the responsibility of this position to actively contribute to Philips market leadership and to strengthen its position on a long-term basis by inspiring others to the commitment of zero errors and error-free performance.
d. Initiates changes that would improve process, cost, quality, safety, and other budgeted goals.
e. Actively participates in the continued implementation of union policies and procedures (seniority, overtime, etc.). Also, is immediate contact for the resolution of 1st level union grievances. It is the responsibility of this position to ensure grievances are at the most possible minimum level.
f. Performs a variety of supervisory duties which include, but are not limited to, recruitment, hiring, department orientation, training, effective and supportive communication, sharing and explaining the business plan, utilization of the performance appraisal program, career development, application of company values (quality, development, leadership, technical competence, teamwork, customer satisfaction and communication), disciplinary action as necessary, termination, etc.
g. Develops and maintains current knowledge and skills on all industry and/or professional trends in own field.
h. Acts as replacement in Manufacturing Manager’s absence.
i. Assists in maintaining ISO9000:2000 registration.
j. Supports and adheres to EEO/AAP, EPA and OSHA regulations and policies as appropriate to this position.
k. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• 4 – 6 years of manufacturing experience
• 2 – 3 years in lighting manufacturing process a plus
• Six-Sigma/Lean Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
• Supervisory experience a preferred
• Ability to commute to or relocate to Tupelo, MS is required.
Education/Training:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent is required
• Master’s degree is a plus
