Production Supervisor Job in Ludington 49431, Michigan US
Job Purpose: Supervises shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment: plans and assigns work, implements and enforces policies and procedures. Responsible for recommending improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. Accountable for productivity and financial results of assigned shift.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience: Two year college degree in Business Administration, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Quality Systems, or other related technical areas, four year degree preferred; 2 – 3 years of previous experience in supervision leading workers in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge: General knowledge of mathematics and problem solving techniques, lean manufacturing, and a working knowledge of MRP or ERP systems (Plex preferred).
- Skills Abilities: Computer skills utilizing MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and first-class interpersonal skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Job:
1. Assign daily job tasks to production employees, cell technicians, set-up personnel and material handlers.
2. Manage employees training, performance, scheduling of vacation and personal time, daily reporting of absenteeism, etc.
3. Ensures effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development. Makes employment decisions. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
4. Responsible for monitoring and/or implementing legal compliance measures as detailed in the employee handbook and related State and Federal laws.
5. Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Works to continuously improve in all areas.
6. Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager. Monitor daily production schedule to insure shipping dates are achieved.
7. Work with QA, Set-up, Maintenance and Tool room with problem solving issues during Quality Alerts and other shop issues.
8. Maintain clean, safe and secure shop environment including investigating and reporting any work related accidents.
9. Ensure all quality standards and procedures are followed.
10. Additional duties as assigned by general or plant supervisor.

Level of Authority:
- Authority to hire, terminate, promote, transfer, or discipline direct report workers.
- Authority to appraise employee productivity and efficiency, and recommend merit wage increases.
· Authority to change work instructions, if required by situation. Can issue "OK to run" instructions on jobs with problems, based on available information.
· Authority to immediately correct safety issues.
Physical Demands: Requires standing or walking a total of 4-6 hours in an 8 hour day, but no more than 2 hour at any one time; sitting a total of 1-2 hours in an 8 hour day, but no more than 1 hour at any one time; frequently requires lifting less than 10 lbs, but occasionally may lift 50 lbs or less 3-5 times in a week; intermittently (5-10% of the day) may need to stoop/bend, crouch, kneel, twist, reach and pull or push objects; exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
