Production Supervisor Job in Plymouth, South West UK
Reporting to the Operations Manager the Production Supervisor is expected to lead, manage and develop a skilled team in a safe manner to achieve the production schedule, control costs and produce product to the required quality and design specification. They will drive and co-ordinate initiatives to reduce cycle times, eliminate waste and realise increased levels of productivity.
Job Responsibilities
· Clearly communicate objectives and targets to the production team. Establish department performance standards aligned to key performance indicators. Measure and monitor performance standards and take corrective action where there is a variance. Ensure the department activities have the urgency and focus to ensure achievement of targets.
· Ensure performance visual controls are up to date. Monitor daily, weekly or monthly performances using standard work methods and take corrective action where there is a variance. Complete a daily production review with the team leaders.
· Develop team member’s skills and knowledge appropriate to their roles.
· Responsible for the appropriate resource and capacity-planning forecast of the production team within the agreed budget to meet the overall manufacturing plan.
· Complete year-end and mid year performance appraisals for team members. Endorse and review skills matrices with team members.
· Briefing and communication to team members. Complete weekly and monthly business briefs to team and incorporate a two-way communication session with team.
· With HR support responsible for the application of disciplinary procedure within the department up to and including written warning stage.
· Selection and recruitment of team members using the appropriate company recruitment process.
· Produce inputs to the manufacturing strategy and department improvement plans. This will include any annual capital spend projection.
Safety
· Responsible for the safety and well being of all team members, visitors and contractors within the working environment.
· Ensure all fire, security, safety and housekeeping standards are adhered to.
· Ensure all unscheduled work, e.g. overtime, is appropriately supervised at all times. Ensure end of shift audits are carried out.
· Support the monthly health safety review with the appropriate representatives.
· Ensure that a comprehensive set of risk assessments are in place, up to date and reviewed on a regular basis.
· Ensure that COSHH assessments appropriate to the department are in place, up to date and reviewed on a regular basis.
· Take full responsibility for accident reporting and investigation for accidents that take place within the department.
· Implement and sustain 5S initiatives in the department.
Quality
· Ensure all procedures, processes and documentation is in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 and ISO14001 quality systems.
· Ensure that any non-conformance is resolved in a timely manner using QI’s, CAR’s and 5D methodology.
· Ensure compliance with work instructions and approved drawings.
· Be constantly trying to improve processes and products by sponsoring a culture of continuous improvement.
Lean Manufacturing
· Assist in the development and delivery of the clients Lean System strategy for the implementation of lean manufacturing in the department.
· Build and develop a change culture to ensure the continuous improvement of people, processes and systems.
· Ensure all team members are trained in lean techniques and are encouraged to participate fully in lean initiatives.
Experience and Qualifications
· A typical Production Supervisor should possess a proven track record of success achieved in a manufacturing operations environment.
· Ideally candidates should be qualified up to degree level but it is essential that they have a formal management qualification ideally gained in a manufacturing environment.
· Experience of working in a low volume high complexity assembly environment is highly desirable
