Job Category: Software Engineering: Program Management Location: Redmond, WA, US Job ID: 774800-70966 Division: Windows Division The Windows Update/Microsoft Update (WU/MU) team is looking for a detail-oriented Program Manager to help own our distribution pipeline and administrative publishing tool to manage the distribution of content to over 800,000,000 PCs globally on a regular basis (that's over half a billion, yo). Windows Update and Microsoft Update are Microsoft's largest software services (and one of the largest in the world). No other group has the direct, ongoing impact that WU/MU does on our customer's experience with our software. As one of our Windows Update Technical Account Managers (WUTAM), you will be directly responsible for the publishing and quality control of all updates being published through our service. Job Responsibilities include: Monitoring incoming publication requests from MU partner teams and scheduling appropriately to ensure adequate lead time and policy compliance Be the primary POC for all concerns and questions regarding the functioning of the WU/MU service Reviewing all incoming publishing requests on a regular basis and following up with content partners to ensure quality and policy baselines are met Work with key publishing teams to ensure smooth on-time and 100% quality releases of high visibility/impact content (MSRC bulletins, Windows Service Packs, etc.) Work with Microsoft operations to adapt network capabilities as needed for planned releases Provide feedback to MU technology team on new features/capabilities of our service Be the final approver of all content being released worldwide and available for follow-up to any service or content issues that arise post-release Due to the nature of this role, some off-hour availability for urgent issue escalation will be necessary. Ensuring the quality of our service is our #1 priority, and the ability to translate business needs between the MU team and our content partners will be a key challenge for the successful candidate. The successful candidate will have: At least three (3) years experience in a product or service team, preferably in a role related to product servicing or software as a service (Saas) Be detail-oriented, have a passion for quality, be a clear communicator, and able to multi-task and context switch between many different issues quickly and easily Strong negotiation and organizational skills Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Strong technical background; a BS degree in Computer Science or other related technical field is preferred but not required Familiarity with WU/MU or SE baseline standards is a plus but not required
