Position Purpose
Develops and designs effective program practices for special populations served by Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) agencies, specifically children of military families. Incorporates external research, empirically-tested practices, and network performance data to identify, evaluate and codify best practices for service to special populations of youth. Communicates and supports adoption of best practices among the network.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Designs and develops the program model(s) for military mentoring, based on external research, promising agency practices, and network performance data. Makes critical, strategic service delivery decisions in order to define the model(s).
o Identifies practices that will improve agency performance towards network program goals for children of military families (and other special populations, as assigned).
o Identifies local agency innovation and works closely with these agencies to surface key program design elements.
o In partnership with Research Program Development team, develops procedures to assess effectiveness of innovative programs, then incorporates innovative practices into pilot programs in other sites or into the core program model.
o Collaborates with the Director of Research and Evaluation to develop BBBSA’s knowledge about effective program practices for military mentoring (and other special populations) by leveraging external research and internal evaluation and performance data.
o
· Supports strategic match growth and quality outcome goals as articulated in the BBBSA Strategic Plan. Works cross-functionally to implement strategies to reach these goals for children of military families (and other special populations, as assigned).
· Collaborates with others in Agency and Program Development department to communicate military mentoring best practices and drive agency implementation of those practices, leading to measured outcomes for children served; to integrate learnings from the field into program model design; and to continually modify improve program design based upon customer experience.
· Collaborates with Information Technology department to ensure alignment of AIM functionality with the program model for military mentoring (and other special populations, as assigned).
· Collaborates with Learning and Development department to develop appropriate training modules for use by agencies with military mentoring programs.
· Develops program materials and tools for use by BBBS agencies. Collaborates with Learning and Development staff to develop and disseminate support materials and webinars.
· Works with the Director of Network Communications Data Analysis to advance understanding, and adoption of best practices in military mentoring programs.
· Provides content expertise on grant proposals to funding sources as assigned. In collaboration with Agency Development, supports effective program implementation for assigned grants. Collaborates with Fund Development department to provide program information to funders. .
· Works closely with the Director of Military Mentoring to align internal program practices with the Director’s efforts to create and sustain external partnerships in support of BBBS’s military mentoring program.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education and Related Work Experience
Education Level:
Bachelors level Degree required; Graduate Degree in a Social Science area, organizational development, business, or program development preferred.
Years of Related Work Experience:
Five or more years strategic leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector or in youth development; Experience in program development, organization development, and research/evaluation.
Skills and Knowledge
· Ability to work with a national federation representing divergent needs and resources. Solid diagnostic and analytical thinking. Ability to translate data into highly actionable information. Proven ability to apply process and project management skills in multiple, simultaneous and complex project/program areas. Highly consultative approach, with proven influencing and consensus-building skills in matters of high import to the organization. Proven ability to facilitate group discussion and decision-making. Track record of effective written and verbal communication to a variety of audiences/stakeholders.
· Intermediate MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
