This programmer position is responsible for developing analytical infrastructure and MIS capabilities to enhance business results and decision making in marketing. Primary accountabilities include using advanced SAS and potentially VBA skills in:

•Sourcing and transforming large datasets from operations or other upstream sources

•Creating a data management strategy and maintaining data warehouses

•Providing transformed ad hoc data sets to econometricians for analysis and modeling and directly providing basic business analysis with summary statistics and key actionable insights

•Supporting and developing MIS tools and standardized reporting that can be used for business decision making

•Supporting and developing production processes e.g. email marketing campaign execution, as appropriate

•Documenting work and processes, sharing best practices, and communicating business results
Candidates will be expected to pass a technical interview of programming proficiency as well as demonstrate appropriate business and data aptitude.

Requirements:
Programming Language Skills: The candidate is expected to have superior coding skills, strong ability to pick up new techniques/languages easily, and an excellent aptitude for application development and creating efficient code architecture. As such the candidate should possess:

•More than 3 years of experience in application development and business capabilities (preferably including analytical, optimization and reporting tools)

•Experience handling large data sets and creating and running productionalized processes in a computationally efficient manner

•Expert SAS developer skills including advanced SAS macro skills. Five plus years of SAS experience is preferred.

•Previous scripting experience in UNIX is preferred; SQL and mainframe experience is also desirable as is basic exposure to web programming technologies and the data generated by them

•Experience with higher level functions in Excel, Access, and Powerpoint is required; experience developing at least basic VBA code strongly desired as much of the productionalized reporting work of the team utilizes Excel as the delivery mechanism.

Business experience and skills include:

•Good data detective instincts with 2+years of experience identifying appropriate data sources, rooting out data quality problems, transforming raw data into usable business information, and designing appropriate and efficient data warehousing strategies

•Strong attention to detail and process such that a reliable programming ‘product’ is consistently returned to the business and all business procedures including as needed, campaign execution or other production protocols, are appropriately followed.

•Thought leadership and drive for innovation coupled with solid business judgment such that right the balance is struck between developing the new vs enhancing the old, trading off the elegance and the efficiency of the architecture vs the cost of development, etc...

•Good project management skills to ensure application development projects have a clear objective, defined scope, end to end plan with appropriate milestones, and on-time delivery

•Numerical intuition, the ability to interpret basic summary statistics appropriately, and good sense in sniffing out anomalies in the data; coursework in mathematics or statistics or computational methods for optimization would be considered a plus as would previous experience in developing standardized metrics.

•Solid communication skills with an ability to convey results, explain issues, drive resolution, and develop requirements with non-technical team members.

•Focus on internal and external customers, good teamwork, will to win in the marketplace, and personal accountability to produce best in class work under own initiative.
