The selected candidate should possess network design experience particularly in working with unique projects. The desired candidate should be able to work as part of a collaborative, multidiscipline team in a non-commercial environment and provide technical subject matter expertise in the field of network engineering with emphasis in Project Design and Implementation. The candidate must have an:
* Specific experience with designing and impementation transition from ATM/SONET to DWDM application.
* LAN/WAN knowledge
* In-depth understanding of networking systems and TCP/IP to include experience in IP Addressing and Subnetting;
* Network Address Translations; MTU; QoS.
* Strong knowledge of Routing and Switching systems (Cisco or Juniper);
* Understanding of Routing Protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP) and Gateway Redundancy Protocols (HSRP, VRRP, and GLRP).
* A working knowledge of STP, VTP and Virtual LAN's and Trunking (VLAN's); Network Security (ACL's, IPSec Tunnels); SONET, ATM, MPLS, POS, Multicast and how to properly implement these technologies.
* Ability to perform (intermediate level) configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of IP network infrastructure (LAN and WAN devices).
* Demonstrate the ability to work with customers to determine network requirements, write system requirement documents, and develop design solutions (physical and logical) that are in compliance with best engineering practices, standards, and guidelines.
*Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
Position requires: Bachelor's Degree or higher + 4-7 years of hands on experience in Engineer, Network Design. 12 plus years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
Desired skills:
*Specific experience with designing and impementation transition from ATM/SONET to DWDM application.
* Experience with IP routing /switching
* Familiar with ATM, SONET, WAN/LAN protocols, Marconi ATM switches
* Hands on experience with Cisco routers
Certifications desired: CCNA; and or CCIE; and or CISSP; and or MCSE
Other desired experience or knowledge includes:
*Demonstrated capability in all primary network elements, such as operation systems, platforms and or protocols.
* Detailed knowledge of MPLS, EWS, ERS, OSPF, VRFs.
*The ability to prepare documentation such as: Test and Activation plan; System Verification plan; Traffic Migration plan.
