Role
This is a Senior Project Management role, within the Global Funds Services arm of The Northern Trust Company. This role is focused on the Transfer Agency/ Fund Administration NT platforms as well as Corporate Social Responsibility with focus in environment, investor relations, public affairs and marketing, diversity, community affairs, risk, legal, procurement and real estate. The programme team is an EMEA-based Business, Operations and IT team providing support and development within the Fund Administration business.
Responsibilities include managing and/or overseeing large and complex projects or programmes. Candidate should provide comprehensive and extensive project management support to stakeholders in defining and executing the programme. The candidate should be able to identify and understand the stakeholders’ needs, create the project charter, and assess the risk, assumptions and constraints. The candidate should also be able to articulate strategic direction to large, complex project or programme activities.
The role will have the responsibility of interacting with business and technology areas, preparing and tracking programme/project plans, and senior level reporting.
The candidate should have experience in preparing and presenting training plans specific to the Funds Administration business and best practices within a Project Management Office.
The candidate should have experience in building strategy within the corporate social responsibility framework and delivering/executing this strategy across a large spectrum of initiatives.
The candidate should be confident, well presented and an agent of change. Prior experience implementing new processes in a challenging environment is helpful.
Principal Responsibilities
Major Duties:
• Oversees the largest and most complex projects or programs with a high degree of risk and impact.
• Provides comprehensive and extensive project management support to stakeholders when initiating a new project to define strategy and approach to achieve business results. Involved with defining the scope, identifying the stakeholders, creating the project charters, and assessing risks, assumptions and constraints.
• Production and communication of competitive corporate social responsibility reporting for clients, employees, NGOs and regulators.
• Prepare and conduct training across PMO and Fund Administration business units.
• Provides strategic directions to large and complex projects and its activities. Responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation plan for defined project scope, developing the project management plan, identifying and scheduling project activities, managing the budget, creating the project team and assigning the roles and responsibilities.
• Executes the work in the plan to accomplish the project objectives that are defined in the project scope statement. Includes managing the project team, communicating with stakeholders and managing expectations.
• Responsible for monitoring and controlling complex projects by performing the work to compare actual performance with planned performance. Responsible for analyzing variances, assessing any trends that can effect process improvements, evaluating possible alternatives, and to implement appropriate corrective action(s) as needed.
• Oversees the work to formally terminate a project and transfer the completed product to operations. Responsible for providing direction to close or cancel a project.
• Responsible for communication, leadership, and management to effectively exchange accurate and relevant information with stakeholders; and responsible for providing guidance and motivation to team members and project stakeholders and ensuring resources are achieving project objectives.
• Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive project management and business knowledge functional expertise.
• Focus of role is on execution of strategic direction of business function activities.
• Highly flexible and adaptable to change.
Skills / Experience
- Multi-disciplinary expert with authoritative Project Management knowledge
- Authoritative knowledge in business specific industry knowledge and fundamentals
- Must have strong knowledge and be an expert in a wide range of situations
- Knowledge in developing standards or best practices
- Skills in translating broad strategic intent into tactical plans and directions
- Excellent organizational, analytical, conflict management and negotiation skills are required. Requires excellent leadership skills and communication skills (both written and oral)
- Must be able to oversee the largest and most complex projects or programs lasting two years or more, team size greater than thirty, and involve a high degree of risk
- Requires a college or university degree and/or relevant work experience, excellent organizational and leadership skills in project management that provides knowledge to the functional business
- Demonstrates excellent experience in change initiatives, covering such areas as operations, IT and product development; with a track record of accomplishment in large, complex projects and change initiatives
- Excellent project/programme management experience is required
