Project Manager for MDA Sensor

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Project Manager for MDA Sensors.

 

Job Summary: As the Project Manager, serve as the primary point of contact to the MDA Sensors Product Office sponsors and manage APL tasking, operations, and work activities for contracted efforts.

 

Duties: Lead efforts to plan, coordinate, and manage MDA Sensors product office tasks. Translate sponsor desires to coherent and executable technical objectives, ensuring APL efforts align with competencies and provide critical contributions to the MDA Sensors product offices. Coordinate with APL technical management to assign task resources. Ensure task plans are developed in accordance with APL quality management processes.

 

Provide coordinating leadership and oversight of APL staff throughout task execution. Facilitate effective communications between APL work activities and between APL and external organizations. Ensure timely delivery of task products and sponsor visibility for APL tasks. Ensure compliance with applicable APL quality management processes across all project activities.

 

Lead AN/TPY-2 Mission Planning activity. Coordinate with sponsor, prime contractor, warfighter representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure Mission Planning requirements and products are developed as needed. Ensure related APL analysis and technical recommendations are timely and effective. Formulate approaches to improve the quality and/or efficiency of future Mission Plan development.

 

Coordinate with Program Manager to formulate project plans consistent with strategic goals of the program office and business area. Develop and maintain awareness and knowledge of the APL competencies that relate to the needs of the sponsors, and apply this knowledge in task planning and the formulation of new tasks.

Required Qualifications: BS in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent with 2-5 years experience in one or more disciplines relevant to ballistic missile defense, and a background in system engineering, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, or performance assessment of complex systems. Demonstrated success in developing or leading complex engineering tasks involving 5-9 individuals. Familiarity with top level engineering concepts associated with the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) and familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs. Highly motivated, enjoy working in a team environment. Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to work with external organizations.

 

Desired Qualifications: MS in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent with 5 or more years experience in work related to ballistic missile defense. Management training and experience. Demonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational teams in efforts involving 10 or more individuals.

 

Special Working Conditions:  Significant on-site presence at MDA sponsor location in Huntsville, AL is required, though relocation is not mandatory.
