Project Manager
Henkels McCoy, Inc., one of the largest privately held international utility contracting firms, with offices in 80 cities and celebrating 85 years of operating with a reputation as one of the most reliable and innovative firms in engineering and construction, is currently seeking a Project Manager for renewable power construction project work in Hawaii. This position is accountable for all aspects of a project's success from the initial bidding process, to meeting or exceeding the clients expectations and on through the profitable completion of the job. Additionally, this position provides direct support to other functional project teams in the planning and execution of the job including resolving issues, managing resources, project coordination, interfacing with client representatives regarding the projects progress, oversight of project accounting, training, mentoring and coaching.
The successful candidate will have 2+ years of experience with medium to large projects in the construction and design of Solar Panel Power plants and/or renewable/Civil class projects. (10+ years overall experience managing utility class projects). Candidate must have a strong background in electrical construction and design that includes client interface, management of power projects with multiple subcontractors. Additional background preferred; BS in Engineering or Construction; PE, PMP or equivalent.
Responsibilities include:
- Strong focus on clients, maintaining relationships with the client and developing new business.
- Relentless enforcement of Safety Plans.
- Develops, plans, coordinates, manages, and directs the construction work for solar projects, including supervising project staff, work assignments, staffing, scheduling, and review. Manages overall project performance (scope, safety, quality, schedule, innovation, cost, and customer satisfaction), coordinating site specific project management or coaching during the initiation and planning phases.
- Develops and/or evaluates plans/criteria or special analyses required in support of the engineering effort.
- Coordinates the design of projects with involved company personnel and client staff.
- Reviews project conduct and output to determine if objectives are being met and if firm standards are being upheld. Appraises performance of project personnel and functions as a mentor to junior staff.
- At a given time could be involved in any combination of:
- Running a major project or several smaller projects.
- Assist in the marketing and business development activities as required.
- Acts as sponsor for large projects.
- Proactively identifies Project Risk and proactively manages risk throughout the project's lifecycle
- Serves as single-point of contact, establishing, maintaining and managing customer expectations regarding the project performance
- Reports project status and performance data as required to internal executive management and external stakeholders.
- Ensures compliance with the Henkels McCoy Project Management Methodology.
- Plans, executes, monitors, controls and continuously works towards successful project closure through out its lifecycle.
- Coaches junior PMs or Associate PMs on medium size projects.
- BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related profession preferred
- 2+ years of relevant (solar and/or power construction industry) Project Management Experience required. 10+ years overall experience managing utility class projects required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in construction industry Project Management Methodology required.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills required.
- Experience / knowledge of construction operations, solar and/or renewables, power transmission / distribution design, financial acumen and team based management required.
- Able to work with minimum supervision required.
- Thorough understanding of utility industry practices, operations, contract administration, contract management, and standards, with emphasis on power utility business required.
- Proficient understanding of CPM scheduling and software applications (Primavera, MS Project) is required.
- Significant travel will be required as well as the ability to commit to long term on site assignments.
Physical requirements of the job include but is not limited to significant time standing or walking on uneven ground, possible climbing of ladders or being in high places, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
