Project Manager Job in Waterloo
Functionally reporting to the Overall Project Manager (OPM) of the Reinsurance Validation Project, this position is responsible for providing Business Project Management expertise and support on the Treaty Validation component of this multi-year initiative. The incumbent will oversee a team of seven Reinsurance Project professionals as they work through the Execution Phase of the project to validate the information on our Reinsurance Admin System against the official paper treaties. The incumbent will work closely with the project team, as well as the Reinsurance Actuarial, Reinsurance Operations and Systems areas, to ensure that project deliverables are on time and within both budget and quality targets. The successful candidate is a strong leader and communicator with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage high profile financial projects. This position will provide the Project Manager with unique exposure to key Reinsurance aspects of the Individual Life Insurance business
Responsibilities
• Manage the Treaty Validation component of the larger Reinsurance Validation Project, ensuring business benefits are realized
• Exercise management judgment and resourcefulness in identifying and resolving complex problems, challenge courses of action, assess risks, modify plans as business conditions change, develop recommendations and make decisions
• Develop, motivate, mentor, and challenge the Treaty Validation project team
• Provide regular status updates and escalate issues in a timely manner
• Develop accurate monitoring and reporting metrics
• Facilitate the evaluation of ideas and options including assessing risks and trade-offs
• Ensure that tasks are assigned to resources with the appropriate skill set and aptitude
• Prepare management/status reports as required
• Champion open communication between project members and teams
Experience / Attributes
• 5+ years of progressive project delivery experience, preferably including experience managing high profile financial projects
• Demonstrated aptitude and accomplishment as a liaison, facilitator, and coordinator in projects where resources work across multiple teams within the organization
• Ability to gain credibility quickly
• Excellent planning, communication, negotiating, influencing, and conflict management skills
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible and exercise judgment in a changing environment
• Ability to effectively apply project management methodologies and ensure that the necessary technical skills are utilized appropriately
• Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work with and communicate with management at various levels of the organization
• Strong organizational and time management skills; proven ability to multi-task
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with all levels of an organization
Preferred
• Financial Services and/or Life Insurance experience
• PMP certified
