Project Manager – Sourcing & Vendor Management recruitment
Overview:
Sourcing and Vendor Management's (SVM) 3 main objectives are: to ensure BlackRock gets the best value from the annual spend through its vendors, to engage and actively manage its external vendors in a consistent manner and to ensure it manages the risks associated with buying certain services.
THE POSITION
The VP, Sourcing and Vendor Management is a successful individual who can expect to lead a variety of non-IT projects across the Company, with significant exposure to senior line managers and their teams. The position has several distinct responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
- Using a Total Cost of Ownership approach, the VP will generate new and exciting ideas about impacting the Company's cost profile. The VP will bring an understanding of supplier and industry economics to the task of identifying opportunities to leverage existing vendor relationships in order to reduce expenses, enhance efficiencies and drive company profits.
- Leading teams of managers and external consultants to develop and execute sourcing plans and strategies for a variety of expense opportunities. The VP will identify key functions and individuals critical to project success and, through influence, will lead multiple teams concurrently to successfully complete projects. The VP will ensure that work teams gather business and service level requirements and will address these issues in vendor RFP's.
- Enhance the relationships and increase coordination between internal departments to enhance profits by managing expenses more effectively.
- Project manage change management activities related to the implementation of the procured services including:
- Applying a structured approach and methodology for the change efforts
- Developing change management plans including project plan, communication plan, training plan, etc.
- Identify resistance and performance gaps, and work to develop and implement corrective actions

· Exceptional project management/team leadership skills - as evidenced by a track record of success leading engagements or other problem-solving initiatives requiring coordination of cross-function team members with varied backgrounds and skills. The successful candidate must be able to foster a developmental environment, motivate people, and create a high performance ethic among diverse groups. The ideal candidate can lead several projects simultaneously, acting as a coach, mentor, and leader for all team members.
· Sourcing expertise - as evidenced by a track record of success in roles and situations that support the development of superior skill at strategic sourcing. The successful candidate can provide several examples of significant experiences leading major projects that have impacted the expense environment at sizeable firms. The ideal candidate has extensive sourcing experience across multiple non-IT commodity groups.
· Strategic thought leadership - as evidenced by a track record of successfully developing strategy by playing a leadership role in structuring the thought process for teams of skilled professionals. A demonstrated ability to think strategically and to act as a thought partner with teammates and senior managers is critically important. The successful candidate is a master at synthesizing apparently unrelated ideas to identify the optimal solution or to develop a coherent plan or vision. The ideal candidate is able to capture this vision through exceptional tactical execution.
· Superior analytical skills - as evidenced by a strong track record of successful analytical decision-making. Successful candidates can provide examples that demonstrate superior quantitative and analytical capabilities, and the ability to translate analysis into tactics and results.
· Superior negotiation skills - as evidenced by a track record of successfully shaping the decision-making process in situations where there are competing objectives. Successful candidates have solid negotiation experience and are comfortable representing the Company's interests in interactions with vendors and other counter parties. The ideal candidate has successfully led complex negotiations in high stakes situations with significant consequences.
· Strong communication skills - as evidenced by examples that demonstrate an ability to influence others through oral and written presentation. Successful candidates are able to persuade, motivate and compel support for key ideas and initiatives by delivering clear, well-structured presentations.
The VP is a team player who moves easily between the roles of team member and team leader. Successful candidates are forward thinkers, with the creativity and maturity to effectively challenge the "status quo" of existing business practices. The ideal candidate holds an MBA and, in addition to significant "line" experience, has also had exposure to (and training with) a consulting firm with a significant sourcing practice.
