Proofreader/Editorial Assistant Summary
The Editorial Assistant/Proofreader performs proofreading and copyediting of promotional and digital materials. Additional responsibilities include initiating and managing copyright permission requests and providing general editorial assistance as needed.

Principal Responsibilities
• Proofreading
- Proof word-for-word against approved copy. Evaluate layouts for problems with spacing, leading, kerning, type size, font, justification, and white space
- Proof references list against references provided or PubMed
• Copyediting to ensure consistency and conformance with established grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules as well as AMA, client, and house style guidelines
• Initiate and track copyright permission requests
• Types of jobs include promotional advertising, medical communications, websites and other digital materials, public relations and social media, and new business proposals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Excellent eye for detail
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• A basic understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology
• Strong organizational, multitasking, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to adhere to strict deadlines as well as the flexibility to handle changing deadlines
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team in a challenging, dynamic environment
• Familiarity with AMA style manual is a plus
• Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree (minimum), preferably in the communications or health sciences field
• 1 year of proofreading experience
• Experience in pharmaceutical advertising or medical communications is a plus

• Willing to work extra hours to meet impending deadlines
