FLW is the largest fishing tournament organization in the world and offers anglers worldwide the opportunity to compete for millions in prize money in a number of tournament circuits each year. The goal of the FLW Public Relations department is to ensure external messaging projects organizational standards throughout all possible resources. The department is responsible for moderating the communications and all internal and external messaging throughout the organization and uses various monitoring and tracking programs to analyze the effectiveness of the efforts.

 

Responsibilities Include:

·       Press release and feature story creation – from the interview process to the creation of compelling and accurate copy – that is informative and entertaining and conforms to AP Style.

·       Pitching story ideas and securing media coverage from local, regional and national outlets

·       Securing radio, television and print interviews for tournament anglers and company executives

·       Frequent travel that includes weekend and evening work supporting professional fishing tournaments

·       Participating in live and prerecorded radio and television interviews

·       Creating and maintaining media contact lists that target appropriate journalists and outlets

·       Writing, editing and distributing news releases as assigned

·       Writing copy for various publications and promotional material

·       Assisting in developing and increasing social media exposure

·       Providing photo and video material for use by media outlets

·       Assembling and distributing media kits

·       Additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

The Public Relations/Communications specialist must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to solve problems, the ability to work independently and on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines, the desire to travel and work outside of normal business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and a thorough knowledge of AP style is required. A basic understanding of fishing terminology and techniques is beneficial. The ideal candidate also will possess strong presentation and project planning and management skills. A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related discipline is required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required. Knowledge of PowerPoint, VOCUS, Bacons, Burrelle’s/Luce, Scarborough Research and similar software is beneficial. Solid organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills are essential. Photography and video skills are beneficial.
