Position Description:
Local manufacture has an opening for Purchasing Agent in both Chattanooga and Cleveland, TN. The primary function of the person filling either position is to assist the Purchasing Manager in the processing of requisitions and issuance of purchase orders to authorized suppliers. They will conduct relationships with consultants, salesmen, customers, suppliers and other members of the public as are necessary to accomplishment of this function.

Purchasing Agent Job Duties:
• Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to master list; clarifying unclear items; recommending alternatives.
• Forwards available inventory items by verifying stock; scheduling delivery.
• Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtaining approval from requisitioning department.
• Obtains purchased items by forwarding orders to suppliers; monitoring and expediting orders.
• Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves shipments in error with suppliers.
• Authorizes payment for purchases by forwarding receiving documentation.
• Keeps information accessible by sorting and filing documents.
• Provides purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Accomplishes purchasing and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires a B.S. degree and/or APICS Certification with a minimum of 3-5 years purchasing experience in the manufacturing industry for junior level and 5-12 years of purchasing experience for senior level. Experience in negotiating and approving vendors; effectively and efficiently managing the procurement process; experience managing customer relationships; interpreting data and developing innovative solutions; invoice management; leading project teams and working well in a team environment. Experience with Six Sigma/Lean principles and applications, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ERP systems. Knowledge of JDEdwards and Logility system is a plus. Proven ability in properly managing inventory in a lean environment. A greenbelt or higher certification preferred.
