Position Summary
We are looking for a talented QA Manager. We’re looking for a Player-Coach who can lead an implementation team and roll up their sleeves! The principal focus of this position will be to develop, implement and apply best practices, test strategies, test frameworks and coordinate all QA and Release Management activities for a large Higher-Ed open source project.
The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership and communication skills, a passion for testing in an open source community and have deep experience leading QA efforts against large and complex web applications in an agile environment. The candidate should be very detail oriented, thrive in challenging environments and be a proven, respected technologist.
What you’ll be responsible for...
- Best practices are implemented through a combination of new development and adoption of existing rSmart best practices.
- Server topologies across cloud environment are provisioned and maintained, supporting both dev and QA activities.
- QA resources are managed and tightly aligned to best practices and output.
- QA team is staffed with A-players who are effective on the project
- Testing coverage is dramatically increased resulting in earlier bug discovery.
- Automation is implemented across development cycle through unit, GUI and non-GUI integration tests.
- A comprehensive QA Test Strategy is developed and executed that comprehends and aggregates all parallel development team sprint development.
- Code quality, test coverage and test results are exposed in a dashboard view allowing for easy evaluation of project health over time.
- Contributions are made to development process (Agile/Scrum) that both improve product dev efficiency but provide foundation for improved product quality.
- Community and implementing institutions see direct benefits of rSmart’s QAAS offering
- QA activities and plans are documented and communicated to Kuali leadership and community.
- Product release activities and resources are coordinate and managed through the release lifecycle.

- 5+ years experience in web application testing
- Experience leading Quality groups both organizationally and technically
- Expert in Unix environments
- Experience working with and leading geographically distributed teams
- Experience working with Config Management and Release Management teams
- Experience with deploying, configuring, and monitoring web applications
- Deep experience with SQL
- Deep experience developing QA best practices and contributing to product development processes
- Agile testing knowledge and experience
- Architect Level experience in designing Test Strategies for complex applications
- Knowledge of and experience with testing web service architectures, SOA
- Knowledge of web development industry standards including SOAP, XML, REST
- Experience with Ruby, Java, Shell, other scripting languages a plus
- Experience using open source GUI automation test tools a plus (Selenium, Watir, Cucumber) a plus
- Experience with cloud architectures a plus (EC2)
- Great references from customers and co-workers
- A college degree
- Travel - 50-75%
