QA Manager
The role of Quality Assurance Manager is to develop and maintain a system to assure that all products developed by the IP Solutions Patents Standards organization meet superior quality and reliability standards. This position has management responsibility of 30-50 resources including both onshore permanent resources and a flexible offshore staff supporting revenue product lines in excess of 100 million dollars. The position is expected to work closely with other senior managers within the Thomson Reuters IP Solutions Technology group to work at continuous process improvements to improve the overall product quality for Thomson Reuters customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40% Manage the quality assurance organization:
- Directs all software quality assurance testing activities for new and upgraded products and systems.
- Develops schedules that drive the testing cycle and gain successful buy-in and accountability from key staff throughout the organization.
- Develops directly and through staff, date-driven analysis and testing plans, managing schedules to ensure company goals are met; reports status, progress and provides explanations and future mitigations for deviations.
- Responsible for providing consistent high standard of Quality Assurance service and reporting through direct staff.
- Provides quality assurance, technical research and analysis, and methodology consultation to developers and staff.
- Prioritizes staff allocations.
35% Refine and develop quality assurance strategies toward top quality and efficiency of the test cycle:
- Ongoing review of process and methodology toward continual improvement of the process.
- Possesses understanding of and supports company business goals.
- Develops strategies for optimizing staff productivity through training, use of technology and offshore capabilities.
- Collaborates with developers on best practices for development and testing flow (Iterative, Component, Agile).
- Represents quality assurance standards and requirements effectively in ongoing communication with product and system developers, section managers, directors and vice presidents.
- Ensures quality programs meet or beat expectations of internal and external customers.
- Lead and evolve automation technology. Ensure optimal use of technology and process to reduce test effort days and cycle time.
10% Project/Pipeline scheduling and management:
- Ensure coordination with Project Management and Development Managers on scheduling of internal and external releases.
15% Personnel Development:
- Hires, trains and evaluates subordinates.

- High adaptability in setting/changing priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Must be able to perceive business, systems and staff needs and make recommendations accordingly.
- Knowledge of Thomson Reuters IP Solutions business and customer usage patterns.
- Familiarity with Quality Center a plus.
- Advanced personal computing skills including ability to quickly learn new and changing technologies; ability to utilize technical tools in product testing processes.
Education and Previous Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a field of science, social science, information science, or other field when supplemented with relevant coursework and/or work experience.
- 10 or more years experience managing technical staff, preferably in information technology.
- 10 or more years experience in product life cycle testing in a standardized development model.
- Expert level experience in proven software and database testing methodology, large bibliographic databases and indexing methods.
- 7 or more years experience in test plan development, systems evaluation, validation of new/upgraded systems, tracking problems and confirming problem resolution.
- 7 or more years experience in technical project management, including responsibility for project reporting and completion.
