We are currently recruiting a Quality Assurance Engineer for our customer located in Bensenville, Illinois that specializes in custom metal die cast products. For the exceptionally qualified candidate, this is a Direct Hire position! This person is responsible for implementing and maintaining dimensional product appraisal activities for die cast, die trim, machining, subcontracting and related in-process and final inspection functions.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for coordinating activities related to PPAP’s including, where necessary, direct customer contact. This position is responsible to insure the agreed upon PPAP format is utilized.
- Shall insure all data submitted to the customer is carefully reviewed before final submission.
- Participate in design review discussions with customers as needed.
- Follow up with customers following PPAP submission to address any potential questions.
- Assemble the necessary individuals to discuss PPAP activities subsequent to sampling. This may include: QA relative to dimensional appraisal; CNC for machining issues; purchasing relative to sourcing issues; machining sub/assembly members where appropriate; process team relative process design; engineering relative to tool design, etc.
- Coordinates the development and updating of Control Plans (first/last piece, in process, final and related paperwork) used during the production process. Uses the charged information to help prevent discrepancies in the operating process. Trains QA and Production personnel in statistical methods.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Prepares and coordinates capability studies and statistical analysis of manufacturing processes to provide information for use in making decisions concerning the related processes.
- Coordinate gauge RR studies as necessary. Conduct gauge evaluation including reading and repeatability tests, inspector error evaluations and other methods of evaluation. Will ensure the inspection activities provide sufficient dimensional evidence necessary for compliance and conformance to the Quality System requirements.
- May perform other work related duties as assigned, including assuming responsibility for dimensional and online QA activities in the absence of the Quality Planning Manager.
- Coordinates and prioritizes activities of operators based on customer requirements and input from department leaders.
Education, Experience and Competencies Required:
- High school education with three (3) additional years formal education or hands-on training in quality assurance arena and/or mechanical engineering disciplines. Some knowledge in calibration is a plus.
- Certified Quality Engineer or Quality Technician by the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
- Must be proficient in reading engineering drawings to ANSI Y 14.5 standard, and understand geometric dimensional tolerancing. Experience and knowledge in calculations using fractions, decimals, algebraic, geometric and basic statistical methods.
- Experience in auditing ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience in applying APQP Procedures.
- Experience in applying 8D and 5 Why Corrective Action methodologies.
- Strong knowledge and efficient use of Minitab, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
