Accountability Objective:

This position is responsible for monitoring, planning and managing all quality assurance compliance activities and continuous process operations. As such, the incumbent assures review of new designs for manufacturing quality adherence, and that required processes, procedures, and quality targets and procedures are achieved and relevant training is relayed to the shop floor. The incumbent must ensure proactive actions are executed for process optimization, materials control, strong customer interface, and field issue resolution. The incumbent must take the lead role in process and quality continuous improvement initiatives through investigation of industry leading technology along with identifying. The incumbent is also responsible for product, process and quality documentation and ISO 9001 systems.

Principal End Results:

• Coordinate the Plant's Quality activities across all functions, including liaison with end customers. Promote Total Quality concepts to affect an ongoing proactive quality improvement culture.

• Review of designs for manufacturing improvements and changes. Makes suggestions to Engineering on necessary changes to reduce cost and assures consistent quality. Defines quality plans including inspection procedures as required. Maintains “change management” system and historic documentation.

• Coordinate and direct the efforts and activities of the Quality Assurance Technician to ensure support to the shop floor and related suppliers, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of productivity and quality while reducing costs of operations for assigned processes.

• Assure that compliance with established quality standards by all internal operating functions and external suppliers is attained.

• Assist the Sales Department in the pre-quotation review of customer quality specifications to assure that any special requirements can be met and that adequate cycle time and cost is reflected.

• Establish and maintain sound procedures to ensure the definition of proper quality standards and the means of measuring conformance to those standards.

• Review internal and external failure costs and develops effective corrective action programs to reduce defect generation and associated costs.

• Recommend and implement improvements to increase the efficiency and performance of departmental responsibilities.

• Coordinate the facility ISO-9001 type program including internal audits, corrective action, and external audits. WCM responsibility as assigned.

• Supervises the training, development and effectiveness of a competent workforce, while maintaining a safe operation and positive labor relations.

• Responsible for the implementation and effectiveness of the EMS in respective areas, and providing work instructions and training for operating personnel.

• Promotes and supports plant initiatives and adherence to SGC safety standards.

• Responsibility for identifying environmental aspects and minimizing potential impacts in conjunction with daily activities.

Nature and Scope:

The Quality Process Engineer has overall quality function responsibility for developing, communicating, measuring and enforcing the facility Quality policy through the establishment, as well as monitoring consistent work processes that fully meet internal and external quality requirements. The process functional responsibility includes full process measurement system, data monitoring, process optimization and product variation reduction.

The incumbent is responsible for determining the frequency and detail of in-process quality and process audits so as to maintain cost effective processes and products that meet customer expectations and specifications. Establishes quality processes and procedures and publishes required internal and external quality documentation.

This position is responsible, in coordination with Purchasing, for establishing vendor qualifications, and interfacing with such vendors to assure a clear understanding of and full compliance with required quality standards,

Responsible for assuring that contract quality procedures and documentation requirements are met. This includes responsibility for assisting the Sales Department in reviewing customer quality specifications and attending customer meetings to achieve agreement on specific quality requirements. In this effort, consideration shall include design and production capabilities as well as schedule and cost impacts.

In the event of repetitive or major field problems, provide leadership in warranty analysis and corrective action and visit customer sites as required for fact gathering.

The position is responsible for the daily flow of process information necessary to effectively accomplish work on the Manufacturing Shop floor. This includes the coordination and assistance in training and developing process documentation to ensure cost-effective, defect-free quality production.

This incumbent works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing Shop Supervision, Production employees, Buyers and Vendors, in the research and implementation of cost and quality improvement projects.

The incumbent structures the department organization and hires necessary hourly personnel. Identifies individual responsibilities and directs subordinates accordingly. Identifies and develops ability to ensure maximum effectiveness. Responsible for the productivity and on-going personnel skill improvements to assure increased effectiveness.
