Quantitative Demand Forecasting Principal Analyst
The main responsibility in this role is to drive the development of new models and analysis across all aspects of Demand Forecasting and related business processes. This is an opportunity to combine technical and leadership skills, while demonstrating the generation of significant measurable value for the company by translating new insights and theoretical concepts into practical forecasting solutions that reduce our multi-million pound annual exposure to imbalance costs.
Your passion for improving technical forecast performance will be clear to the analysts you are mentoring in their contributions to development work, your communication of developments to business partners, and your proactive involvement in projects with other teams beyond Demand Forecasting.
The successful candidate will have a track record of rigorous model development in a commercial environment, ideally backed by academic experience of similar technical problems with a PhD in a relevant area such as statistics, machine learning, econometrics, or other quantitative discipline.
Key Skills Qualifications Sought:
- A postgraduate qualification in a numerate discipline, ideally to PhD level, is essential to meet the excellent scientific research and investigation skills required. Also, the qualification should highlight an in-depth knowledge in computational techniques.
- Highly numerate and excellent analytical skills with a solid understanding of the principles of statistics.
- A high level of computer literacy including familiarity of supporting software such as SAS, SQL, and VBA.
- Proven work experience developing and delivering mathematical computer models.
- Proven ability to take a lead in developing others in the team either through sharing own skills and connecting people together.
- An excellent understanding of electricity and gas industry, regulatory regimes, trading arrangements, hedging strategies, and the drivers of gas and electricity demand.
- A sound understanding of how demand forecasting affects gross margin.
