Quantitative Research Analyst (Buy Side)
The Opportunity:
- This is a fantastic opportunity for an experience quantitative analyst (ideally buy-side), to further develop their career within a very prestigious asset manager
- Key selling points of the role:
- Working within a quantitative research team that has a very well respected and high profile positioning within the business, and, an excellent reputation externally
- Situated on the investment floor, directly next to your main stakeholder clients (Portfolio Managers), this team is integral to the investment process within this predominantly fundamental active asset manager
- The constant exposure and interaction with the PM’s is unusual for a role like this and indicates the “value-add” nature of the quant function. Your role is viewed very much as “advisory” ,and, the output of your research can influence not only the specific PM teams, but also the direction and view of the senior asset allocation / investment committees
- Emerging Market responsibility – you will responsible for supporting the Emerging Market Equity Portfolio Managers, and, as EM fund management is a significant part of this firms investment capability, you will have plenty of opportunity to learn and develop your knowledge around EM fund management
- More specific duties are concerned with the updating of monthly portfolio analytics and other quantitative investment analysis as required by the investment teams, specifically including, optimised portfolios, stock selection screens, country and sector allocation models
- Development and maintenance of analytical investment tools and research, through effective use of Matlab and VBA
Your Experience:
- You will be an experienced quantitative analyst, with experience of working within a buy-side environment
- Undoubtedly you will have exceptional numerate academics, with potentially post-graduate qualifications and perhaps the CFA Charter (or working towards it)
- What is as important, though, is your ability to communicate with the investment professionals within the business. This is what sets this role apart. This is very much a “value-add” role and not a case of producing wonderful quantitative models for the sake of it. You are required to present and influence the PM’s on a very regular basis, demonstrating the ability to articulate what you do in a language that the more fundamentally focused PM’s can understand
- The ability to model in VBA is an essential requirement. A high level of proficiency in Matlab would be preferred
- You will have knowledge of how to slice dice portfolios, apply your quantitative knowledge from both a portfolio analytics and construction perspective, as well as experience of back-testing investment strategies and an appreciation of thematic investing
- Team player, with the willingness to share project work and collectively work towards improving the quant capability and output to the business
- Demonstrable in Emerging Market equity investing, with a strong appreciation of both bottom-up and top-down investment approaches
The Company:
- Very prestigious asset manager with an enviable reputation for launching innovative investment products and a commitment to emerging market fund management
- A culture that promotes both personal and professional development
- Located within beautifully appointed offices within close proximity to excellent transport links
