Quarrying Specialist Job in 85008

Quarrying Specialist (Excavation Specialist - Heavy Equipment Machine Operator)If the concept of reducing a mountain to rubble appeals to you, then join the Army National Guard as a Quarrying Specialist. You wont be disappointed.

Quarrying Specialists are responsible for creating the gravel necessary for Army National Guard construction projects. This process begins with blasting rock and ends with delivering the finished product to the site. In between, rock usually goes through two crushing stages and a washing station. Maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the machinery are also a part of this specialty.

The skills you learn as a Quarrying Specialist will help prepare you for a civilian career with building contractors, state highway agencies, rock quarries, well drillers or construction firms. There are a number of formal three-year operating engineer apprenticeship programs that you might qualify for as well. These programs, which are administered by the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc., consist of at least three years or 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 144 hours per year of classroom instruction.

Earn while you learn

Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to learn. In the Army National Guard, you will learn these valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance.

Job training for a Quarrying Specialist consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), including practice operating construction equipment. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.
