Radar and Combat System Engineer

Introduction:  The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Radar and Combast System Engineer.

Job Summary:  Support Navy and Joint advanced eadar system analysis through the development and application of models and simulations (MS).  Develop new analysis capabilities for multi-mission radar performance assessments.  Analyses will address system performance, system concept development, algorithn development, and test evaluation.  Interact with government sponsors and contractors on new radar and combat system development program.  Investigate physics-based phenomena affecting radar and communication systems as required.
 
Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

  1. Conduct system-level performance and analysis for in-service, in-development, and advanced future radar systems to support a cariety of phases of the system engineering process, from development through at-sea testing.  Develop new MS tools for these analyses as necessary, often in a teamed environment.  Investigate new radar signal and data processing algorithms.
  2.  Interface with Navy, MDA and/or Homeland Defense program offices, and contractors in the area of radar performance analysis.  MS development, and radar design issues as needed.

Required Qualifications: MS in Electrical Engineering or Physics or equivalent technical field.  At least 10 years experience developing and applying to support system performance analysis.  Strong understanding of radar signal and data processing.  Strong understanding of physics-based phenomena affecting radar and/or communications systems.  Good interpersonal and communication skills (writing and speaking).
 
 
Desired Qualifications:  Five or more years experience with Navy, Army, MDA and/or other DoD radar systems.  Experience interacting with Army, Navy, MDA and/or other DoD sponsors.
