MedImmune has an opening for a Research and Development Associate I or II to join its dynamic scientific team in Process Cell Culture. The candidate will be an active member of a team responsible for developing, improving and optimizing mammalian cell culture processes for the production of recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

* routine sub-culture of suspension cells using aseptic technique;

* Development of optimized and robust seed train and bioreactor processes, including media and feed development;

* Designing of experiments;

* Analyzing the results statistically;

* Trouble-shooting;

* Developing new technologies; and

* Maintaining lab equipment and areas.

The candidate will be expected to maintain current knowledge of scientific literature and keep detailed and accurate records of experimental activities. The candidate will be expected to present data at internal meetings and as appropriate at external conferences. A high degree of proficiency in spread-sheet programs and data analysis is expected.

 

Position:
This position is primarily laboratory-based. Due to nature of cell culture experiments, occasional weekend and holiday work may be required.

Education:
Bachelor or Master of Science in chemical/ biochemical/biomolecular engineering or related science disciplines is required. Relevant experience of 0-2 years with a Bachelor's degree for Research Associate I position, and 3-5 years with a Bachelor's degree or 0-2 years with Master's degree for Research Associate II position.

 

A good understanding of biochemical engineering concepts, biochemical pathways, and/or biochemistry and proficiency in MS Office (or related) programs is required. Aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture experience is a plus. Additional desirable skills include experience in working with bioreactors, medium development, knowledge of Design of Experiments and statistical data analysis.
