Responsible for overseeing the testing of disinfectant and antiseptic products in accordance with company standards and procedures:
- Supervise laboratory personnel in the conduct of required tests (in accordance with methodologies of the Association of Analytical Chemists - AOAC, the American Society for Testing Materials - ASTM and the European Committee for Standardization - CEN) to evaluate the microbiological efficacy, susceptibility and quality of experimental as well as competitor products for purposes of product registration, as well as resolution of internal and external product-related inquiries.
- Ensure that all requirements for testing facility management are met for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) studies.
- Ensure maintenance of test systems and laboratory records in compliance with GLP.
- Develop, approve and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Monitor laboratory efficiency and productivity through prioritization and product recommendations, based on analysis of current research methods and microbiological practices.
- Drive product and concept development with formulating teams.
- Develop and allocate laboratory budget.
- Manage procurement, installation and maintenance of capital research equipment. Ensure safety and training of laboratory personnel.
- Serve as senior liaison with legal, quality assurance, compliance, and manufacturing divisions as well as management on microbiological issues.
- Report to senior management on project status and results, as well as recommendations on technology enhancements.
- Identify and adapt appropriate research projects for publication or presentation in association with industry organizations.
- Attend industry seminars and conferences.
- Hire, train, and mentor 8-10 laboratory associates/technicians.
- Involves global travel, 3 to 4 times per year, approximately 3 days per trip.
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry or related science field (foreign equivalent acceptable) plus 5 years of experience in job offered or 5 years of post-baccalaureate, progressively responsible experience as a microbiology, biology or chemistry scientist. Experience must be related to consumer personal care and household product development, testing and manufacturing. A master's degree plus 3 years of experience is accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree plus 5 years of experience.
- Experience must include: supervision of scientific personnel; AOAC, ASTM and CEN testing methodologies; implementation of product testing modules and product formulae; evaluation of competitor products; and resolution of internal and external inquiries regarding product performance.
- Demonstrated ability in team building and leadership.
- Demonstrated analytical, written and oral communication, presentation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel globally, 3 to 4 times per year, approximately 3 days per trip.
- Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.
