Role Summary
· Accountable for planning and scheduling activities of employees and managing supplies in order to meet required Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for assigned work area and achieving stated targets for Safety, Quality, Value and Cost (S,Q,V,C)
· Responsible for daily RTS product production and employee supervision. Provide key support for management and the long-term business strategy of shelf stable product lines. Drive production activities for accurate product formulations, processing methods and protocol for quality and food safety
· Responsible for implementing the Ready to Serve Department’s internal policies and procedures and ensuring that State and Federal guidelines are followed on the production floor and throughout the retort operation
Role Responsibilities:
Process: Coordinates resources, oversees and monitors execution of department objectives.
Collaborates with plant operating personnel to:
a. Ensure compliance with all internal and external procedures and regulations
b. Communicate audit findings to Operations Management that accurately report results.
c. Execute capital and facility improvements, including installation and operation of pilot equipment and full scale retort processing and packaging equipment
d. Produces products according to recipes and processes provided; ensure results are properly documented and statistically sound
People: Educates and trains employees in S,Q,V,C principles and application in role
a. Partner with respective departments (e.g. marketing, quality, operations, engineering) to deliver on project commitments
b. Plan and schedule employee development activities that are designed to assist employees in meeting performance requirements
c. Identifies and addresses employee and HR issues; Maintains general understanding of bargaining agreement
Financial: Coordinates resources, controls resource costs in line with operating budget
a. Provides input to operating budget
b. Operates and adheres to budget standards regarding staffing and overtime costs and materials usage
c. Tracks work area standards to budget and explain variances to plan; Recommends corrective action
Strategic: Identifies and implements continuous improvement actions and opportunities
a. Monitors results against work area goals that have been set for the Quality team
b. Analyzes processes, systems, equipment and performance trends across work areas
c. Recommends actions required to make improvements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience
· B.S. degree, preferred Food Science
· 5 yrs within Food Manufacturing
· 2 yrs experience in Production Leadership in a Food Manufacturer
· Experience in food safety and/or shelf-stable food processing and sanitation
· Strong technical background with experience in processing of Low Acid Canned Foods (LACF) products
· Demonstrated experienced with working with Retorts / Thermal Processing
· Documented food processing HACCP experience
· Prefer candidate with plant startup, pilot plant, and retort experience in a food environment
· Mechanical/Engineering background preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Ability
· Technical skills in equipment operation and maintenance
· Understands and able to troubleshoot all activity, systems and processes under supervision
· Understands Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) for food plants
· Models Lean manufacturing principles
· Perform effective problem solving and team building
· Ability to read, write and comprehend written and spoken English
· Ability to effectively prepare and interpret verbal and written communications and reports
· Able to apply general math principles including ratios and basic statistics
· Ability to understand and use all company software applications and automated systems
· Understand and properly utilize all lab testing equipment and production equipment
· Understand and properly utilize various lab testing equipment
· Care and use of required onsite facility personal protection equipment
· Able to respond to emergency call outs
· Has basic computer skills
