These positions are located at Canaveral National Seashore, which consists of approximately 57,000 acres, and is adjacent to the Kennedy Space Center. The climate is hot and humid. Average temperature is 72 degrees with a high of 96 degrees in August and a low of 28 degrees in February. All amenities are available within commuting distance. These are temporary positions not expected to exceed 1039 hours (6 months) in a one-year period, however incumbent may be terminated sooner or extended, if the need arises, and may be rehired without further competition if seasonal hours are not exceeded. Selective Factor: Selectee must possess the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications; Standard or Advanced First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Certifications must be from a nationally recognized organization, such as the American Red Cross, the YMCA, American Heart Association and the United States Lifeguard Association. NOTE: You must submit documentation of these certifications with your application package. And Qualification Requirement for GS-04: Six months of General experience. General experience may have involved dealing with the public, maintaining supplies/equipment and following oral and/or written instructions, etc. AND Six months Specialized experience. Specialized experience may include such duties as service as a lifeguard; teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; etc. OR Education: Successful completion of two years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in courses related to recreation (e.g., basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, arts and crafts, etc.) OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. NOTE: You must submit copies of college transcripts if you are qualifying based on education. Conditions of Employment Selective Factor: Selectee must possess the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications; Standard or Advanced First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Selectee must successfully complete a background security investigation, if not previously completed. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Unsuitable background information will be grounds for withdrawing the offer of employment or termination after you begin work. Selectee must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result before being appointed into this position.
