RECREATION LEADER
Part-Time Position - Summer Only
SALARY: $8.23 - $10.00 per hour

The Recreation Leader works approximately 15-35 hours a week, Monday through Sunday, at an assigned Montclair playground site, at the on-site Summer Camp, or other recreation facility. Assignment will be in a 10-week program, May 29 - August 3, 2012. Candidates must be available for mandatory training on May 23, and 24, 2012. This is an hourly position offering no supplemental employee benefits other than salary.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Under direction, the Recreation Leader assists with organizing and developing recreational and social activities in the program. These activities may include assisting with summer playground programs, community programs and special events, sports activities, and general assignments at various recreation facilities. In addition, this position assists staff with various responsibilities; takes the initiative to promote, coordinate, supervise, and/or participate in all activities; ensures the safety and welfare of all participants; and performs related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.; possession of First Aid/CPR certification prior to the start of the program, or participation in mandatory First Aid/CPR training to be held prior to program start date; and, availability to work 15-35 hours per week, Monday through Sunday.

Skills/Abilities to: work well with youth and teen populations in an energetic, positive, and courteous manner; establish and maintain a team approach with coworkers; demonstrate good communication and organizational skills; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; the ability to make sound decisions and communicate those decisions; and maintain effective relationships with all participants, volunteers, and staff.

SELECTION PROCESS
1. Completion of Montclair's application form is required.
2. All applications received by the filing deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012, will be screened for conformance with required and desirable qualifications.
3. Candidates possessing the highest qualifications will be invited to participate in a structured oral interview.
4. Successful candidates' names will be placed on an eligibility list from which a selection will be made. The City Manager will make final appointment, upon recommendation of the Community Development Director.
5. The top candidates must pass a fingerprint, criminal background investigation, and a preemployment physical including a drug screening, prior to hiring.
