POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE:
Regional Director – Eastern Iowa
APPOINTMENT TYPE:
Full time, Institutional Official, Calendar-year
COMPENSATION:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides leadership for program development, professional development, and staff support in the field of vision services. Supervises and evaluates Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists within an assigned geographical region of Iowa. Works collaboratively with the Superintendent, other Regional Directors, and numerous teams of professionals to ensure the successful delivery of vision services to students who are blind and visually impaired in Iowa. Develops and fosters partnerships with related organizations including Area Education Agencies (AEAs), Local Education Agencies (LEAs); the Iowa Department for the Blind; the Iowa Department of Education; the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) vision teacher preparation program; parents; and professional and para-professional staff. Supports, promotes, and ensures the success of Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Regional Director is also an Ex-officio member of the Statewide Management Team for Vision Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in education or special education plus at least three years of teaching experience in special education required. Teaching endorsement in visual impairment preferred. Leadership and supervisory experience in special education also preferred. Candidates must meet State of Iowa requirements for administrator licensure and teacher licensure by time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to hold or seek evaluator endorsement upon appointment. Frequent travel within Iowa, including some overnights, will be necessary.
