USI New England is currently conducting a search for a Regional Director of Underwriting to join the Employee Benefits department. This is a regional position that will be located in the Woburn, MA office. This position will manage a team of underwriters in the Employee Benefits department in both the Meriden, CT and Woburn, MA offices.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Manage team of underwriters with regard to conducting annual performance reviews, managing workloads, delegating duties, ensuring proper execution of duties, etc.
Furthering the educational development of team members and conduct regular team meetings to ensure proper departmental focus.
Provide statistical analysis in preparation for negotiations with insurance carriers on pricing for our clients’ health and ancillary insurance programs.
Work directly with our leadership and producers to ensure that all aspects of the marketing and service process are handled efficiently, accurately, and professionally.
Take part in new business conceptual meetings and present the select overall value during renewal and throughout the year.
Keep current with marketplace intelligence regarding health trend factors, retention and pooling charge by group size, and credibility formulas.
Prepare pre-renewal claims projections for USI Stewardship accounts based on experience provided by consultant.
Review USI Stewardship account health renewals thoroughly and assist in the negotiation of those renewals.
Utilize predictive modeling tools to develop alternative strategies, plan modeling and cost reduction opportunities.
Develop strong, positive relationships with carrier underwriters and medical directors and ensure timely delivery of proposals and renewals.
Experience/Specifications:
Minimum of 10 years of experience with Medical Insurance Underwriting
5-7 years of medical underwriting experience required with a strong understanding of Self Insurance
Must be able to set and meet deadlines, communicate, negotiate, work under pressure, organize and prioritize, collaborate in a team setting and have excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
Must be able to understand, interpret and convey technical information to others.
Must have strong analytical skills and be capable of using and interpreting benefits related facts and figures.
Detailed understanding of insurance company renewal formula, renewal process,
Detailed understanding of all types of welfare benefit plan designs and claim procedures.
Detailed understanding of all types of alternate funding arrangements including full and partially insured, minimum premium, and self insured.
Wide product knowledge of available employee benefits including life insurance, medical and dental plans, and disability.
Familiarity with products, services, competitive offerings, market needs and industry trends.
Life and Health insurance required and must be able to maintain updated license.
BS/BA degree in mathematics or finance or other related field.
Expert level skills in Excel
Compensation commensurate with related experience
