Regional Economist- Asia and Japan recruitment
In Asia, we have been present since 1987 with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo and manage $8bn of assets with 75 professionals.
In an effort to further build out an Asian business, we are creating a regional multi-asset investment platform, covering all markets in the Asian region including Japan. The platform will support the analysis and management of assets for private clients, institutional clients, mutual funds and absolute return funds, across the spectrum of equities, fixed income, currencies and commodity related investments in the region.
A Regional Economist is required to support the platform. This new position will report to the Chief Investment Officer, and be responsible for:
- Developing a clear macro-economic framework for analysis of countries based on various aspects such as monetary policy, business cycles, liquidity and risk aversion and policy frameworks.
- Analysis of all macro-economic data and events in all countries in the region, with a view to formulate an economic opinion of each country on a relative and absolute basis.
- Provide a macro-economic view for each country, which will be a strong component of the asset allocation framework for these asset classes done by the CIO.
- Creation of presentations to represent the view taken for clients, salespeople and relationship managers in the company, and be able to defend this opinion.
- Using the various global economic view available from other Lombard Odier offices, assess the implication of global forecasts on the Asian region, and if required, formulate his/her own opinion about the global direction.
The right candidate will have –
- An advanced degree in any financial, economic or business discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years experience as an Asian economist either on the buy or sell side
- Intimate in depth knowledge of the main Asian economies from a ground up basis,
- A mindset to work independently without much guidance to analyze market and economic data, analyze opinions received from sell side economists, and to create economic views with this support.
- Ability to create presentations to outline and support economic views taken in Asia
As a minimum requirement, candidates must be based in any country in Asia at the time of application, and be able to fluently speak any one Asian language, in order to demonstrate that they have local knowledge in Asia. The position is based in Hong Kong.
