The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Regional Education Coordinator to support the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. HJF provides administrative and management support to DVBIC.
DVBIC is multi-site medical care, clinical research and education center. It is a unique collaboration of the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system, and civilian partners. The mission of DVBIC is to serve active duty military, their dependents and veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) through state-of-the-art medical care, innovative clinical research initiatives and educational programs. DVBIC is primarily responsible for support of clinical operations in the DVBIC network which includes 10 military treatment facilities, 5 veteran hospitals and 2 community re- entry civilian programs. In addition, the office has visibility and contributes to the expertise of DoD level related clinical activity related to traumatic brain injury.
Responsibilities are to perform a variety of duties to provide education for service members, veterans and their families on the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury. The incumbent coordinates/facilitates and/or provides TBI education for providers, clinicians and all members of the healthcare team who are involved in the care of service members and veterans with traumatic brain injury. The incumbent delivers education programs directly to families, spouses, ancillary staff, the military and civilian community on traumatic brain injury. Duties do not include direct patient care. The incumbent reports directly to the Site Senior Leadership and receives programmatic direction from the Manager, Office of Education, Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center. Coordinates projects for patient/family and community awareness initiatives. Reports to Program Director.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates the development of Traumatic Brain Injury educational initiatives aimed at teaching the healthcare team.
2. Assures that providers are aware of and understand new clinical care standards of practice for traumatic brain injury.
3. Works collaboratively with the Office of Clinical Initiatives in providing educational opportunities for the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of military and veterans with TBI.
4. Delivers education programs and/or provides information on TBI to service members, veterans, families and civilians.
5. Develops education programs tailored to target audiences.
6. Provides consultation to military and veterans sites related to TBI educational issues.
7. Conducts outreach activities within region to develop opportunities to provide TBI education and information about DVBIC programs/services.
8. Serves as a resource for information and education on TBI at the site and for the region.
9. Integrates principles of adult learning into strategies to develop and deliver various education products to teach clinicians/service members and families about TBI.
10. Adheres to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
11. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills which may include: speaking before large groups of professionals, business/civic organizations as well as speaking with diverse groups of service members, veterans, families and community groups.
12. Utilizes appropriate lines of authority for approval of education activities.
13. Demonstrates accountability for practice through planned and continuous professional growth and development.
14. Coordinates continuing education functions and departmental events.
15. Travel to include over-night travel as required.
16. Participates in special projects as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of health care and care for the traumatic brain injured patient preferred. Experience with developing and teaching on healthcare topics. Excellent communications skills to include: public speaking, facilitation, interpersonal, networking and building collaborations. Must be able to work independently; as well as function as part of a team. Computer proficiency - software and hardware as related to educational program development for both presentations and database management. Excellent time management and organizational skills, creativity and must be flexible. Demonstrates sensitivity to diverse populations and excellent interpersonal skills.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree. Military/Health experience preferred.
Minimum Experience: 2 years experience in teaching on healthcare or related topics. Clinical experience with traumatic brain injured patients preferred.
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of sitting, standing, ability to carry 20-30 pounds; may encounter patients who are contused, agitated, or abusive.
Required Licenses. Certification or Registration: CPR/First Aid.
Work Environment: Residential Brain Injury Program.
