Regional Risk Officer recruitment

We are seeking an experienced Regional Risk Officer for the Central Region, overseeing the function across 21 countries (from Russia, the CIS states, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Gulf Countries, Lebanon, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt and South Africa).

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer for Growth Economies, this position could be based in Dubai, South Africa or Turkey.

Specific responsibilities will include:

• Working closely and coordinating responsibilities with Growth Economies CRO to ensure management of risks from all sources across all Chartis businesses
• Working closely with senior management within the region to implement the Chartis Risk Management Framework
• Working closely with senior management within the region and home office risk management resources to develop and implement processes and tools to:
                 o identify and assess all sources of risk including insurance (property, casualty, life), market, credit, legal, operational and business risks
                 o gather, maintain and analyze internal and external data to support risk analysis, control and reporting
                 o deliver information/tools to help businesses compete more effectively (e.g., portfolio risk metrics, portfolio optimization, decision-support tools)
                o set and monitor risk appetite/limits
                o deploy capital models and ensure they are used properly for technical pricing, capital management and risk-adjusted performance reporting
• Chairing regional and/or legal entity Risk Capital Committees and working closely with the home office Risk Reporting and Governance team to ensure risk governance is implemented as designed within framework
• Ensuring compliance with country specific regulations related to risk management throughout the region
• Working closely with Internal Audit to develop plans to audit risk controls within the region
• Managing regional risk management resources including providing technical training and mentoring on career development.

The successful candidate for this position will possess a thorough understanding of risk principles gained from a minimum of 10-15 years of experience within either the banking and finance or insurance sectors.  Ideally, experience within the property/casualty insurance sector would be advantageous.

Proven leadership and management skills and the ability to partner with the business on issues relating to risk, as well as the capacity to effect change, are all essential requirements for success.  As this position will be managing resources which are geographically dispersed, the ability to work collaboratively as part of interdisciplinary teams and to approach risk issues from a commercially beneficial perspective are paramount.  This position will suit a strategic thinker, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail who is also capable of being 'hands on' in his/her approach.
