Full Job Description
Reporting to the Area Underwriting Manager the Area Underwriter`s role will be that of a subject matter expert and will be responsible for the underwriting of complex individual risks and management of the Regional portfolio to develop profitable business. You will operate within agreed underwriting guidelines designed to use your expertise to the full in delivering underwriting decisions to our brokers. You will agree terms across a variety of Commercial products, within specified authority limits appropriate to your skills and experience.
Main Duties Include:
- Provision of a high quality technical and commercial underwriting in the rating and acceptance of insurance risks within agreed guidelines authority limits.
- Performing a range of duties such as technical referrals, assisting with technical training and auditing, and the production and distribution of statistical information and other research
- Working individually and collectively with other team members across Underwriting, Customer Service and Sales teams to provide technical support to add value in Property, Motor or Liability Insurance
- Provide active support and guidance to the technical and commercial development of more junior underwriters
- Delivery of outstanding underwriting and customer service to Brokers in your Area
- Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

You should have the following skills and characteristics:
Proven experience in a commercial underwriting role with specific knowledge of the Liability - Casualty class of business.
Strong underwriting management ability.
Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and negotiation skills.
Good analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Excellent problem solving skills.
