JOB SUMMARY

·         All of the Duties and Procedures outlined in the COMDA allowable as well as all chairside clinic support requested. 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Patient Care/Documentation

·         Perform duties as outlined in COMDA allowed for RDA with appropriate supervisory level.

·         Taking Blood pressure reading.

·         Pouring and care of Laboratory Impressions.

·         Chart documentation as instructed by provider.

·         Lab Duties

·         Exposing, developing and mounting dental radiographs.

·         Patient education (Hygiene instruction, Post Op instruction) as directed by Dental Provider.

·         Aiding and monitoring Instrument Sterilization, Tray set up, Operatory disinfecting and Barrier Protection.

·         Restocking of dental materials and supplies.

·         Inventory control.

·         Patient health history review and coverage status.

·         Completion of Lab RX as instructed by provider.

·         Maintenance of Dental Handpieces, Equipment and Units.

·         Daily set up and shut down of dental delivery system.

·         Receiving dental supply shipments.

·         17. Take Impressions for Diagnostic and Opposing Models

·         Apply Non-Aerosol and Non Caustic Topical Agents.

·         Remove Post Extraction and Periodontal dressings.

·         Placement of Elastic Orthodontic Separators.

·         Remove Orthodontic Separators.

·         Hold Anterior Matrices.

·         Remove Sutures.

·         Apply topical Fluoride after Scaling and Polish.

·         Place and remove Rubber Dams.

·         Place Wedge and remove Matrices.

 

Under general supervision of Dental Provider

·         Mouth mirror inspection of Oral Cavity, to include charting of obvious Lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth.

·         Placement and removal of temporary Sedative Dressings.

·         Obtain Endodontic Cultures

·         Dry Canals, previously opened by provider, with Absorbent Points.

·         Remove excess cement from Supragingival surfaces of teeth with a Hand Instrument or floss.

·         Size Stainless Steel Crowns, Temporary Crowns and Bands.

·         Temporary cementation and removal of Temporary Crowns and removal of Orthodontic Bands.

·         Placement of Post extraction and Periodontal dressings.

·         Coronal Polish, following the determination by the dental provider that the teeth to be Polished are free of Calculus or other Extraneous material.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

·         CPR Certificate

·         X-Ray License

·         Current Register Dental Assistant State License (RDA)

·         Coronal Polish Certificate

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

·         High School Graduate

·         CPR Certificate

·         Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred

·         X-Ray License

 

PREFERRED

·         Experience in Dental care facility.

·         College degree.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

·         Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.

·         Must be able to have vision, which is adequate to read memos, a computer screen, registration forms and other clinic documents.

·         Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and feeling.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

·         The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The noise level in the work environment is usually above average.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

·         STANDING/WALKING: Up to 20% of the workday consists of stand/walking on tile and cement floors while performing LVN duties.

·         SITTING: Up to 80% of the workday may be spent sitting answering the telephone, calling out prescriptions and referrals.

·         LIFTING:  Lifting may include up to 35 lbs. in moving equipment or assisting disabled patients.  5% of the day involves lifting requiring a full range of motion.

·         CARRYING: Up to 25% of the day may include carrying objects weighing up to 10 lbs., this may include carrying charts and equipment.

·         PUSHING/PULLING: Up to 5% of the day may require pushing or pulling equipment, drawers carts.

·         CLIMBING:  No more than 1% of the time may include climbing one flight of stairs.

·         BALANCING:  Up to 1% of the time may be required to use a footstool in retrieving supplies.

·         STOOPING/KNEELING: Up to 5% of the work day is spent stooping or kneeling to open drawers and gathering equipment.

·         BENDING: Up to 25% of the workday may be spent in bending at the waist.

·         CROUCHING/CRAWLING: None required.

·         REACHING/STRETCHING: Up to 3% of the time may require reaching or stretching.

·         HANDLING:  Hand and wrist movement is required 50% of the workday.

·         FINGERING Up to 50% of the workday involves writing in the patient records.

·         FEELING: Normal tactile feeling is required to perform all job duties.

·         THROWING:  None required.

·         TWISTING: Up to 5% of the day may be required in retrieving supplies or equipment.

·         TALKING:  Average ability is required in communicating with patients, staff, and outside agencies, such as pharmacies and physicians' offices.

·         HEARING: Average ability is required in answering the telephone and performing all job duties.

·         SEEING:  Average ability is required to read and follow instructions and assisting patients.
