Our client, a foreign-based commercial bank with 7 branches in the GTA and Vancouver and providing investment, loan, remittance, credit card and Export/Import services, is searching for an experienced Operational Auditor to coordinate and supervise the upcoming regulatory filing effort with the Office of the Superintendant of Financial Institutions. This is a 3-to-6 month engagement (contract) that could lead to a full-time position within the organization.
The incumbent will mainly be responsible for providing guidance to the bank in their efforts to obtain a deposit taking license by ensuring that OSFI guidelines, including legislative compliance management, have been implemented across the bank. Other duties will include periodically meeting with senior management to discuss the status of the bank’s risk and control environment. They will also be expected to provide advice regarding corrective action, in addition to suggesting improvements across the bank’s controls and operations.
This position will have two direct reports and will require occasional travel across Canada.
Requirements Qualifications:
Candidates to meet consideration for this immediately available contract engagement will have the following skill sets and experience:
- An understanding of the control, regulatory and risk issues in Global Payments, Import/Export, loans, and debit and credit card products;
- Expert knowledge of the financial services industry including banking, global custody operations, financing products and operations, collateral management and compliance with regulatory bodies/legislation (OSFI, MFDA, IIROC, Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II, Bill 198, Mortgage Brokers Act, etc);
- Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities coupled with strong organizational skills and an acute awareness for deadlines are integral skill sets;
- A University degree from a relevant field (Accounting, Finance, Business Administration);
- 3 or more years operational audit or compliance experience in the retail/commercial banking industry;
- Supervisory experience is preferred as is designation as a CIA (Certified Internal Auditor).
