The Department
The Fixed Income team focuses on working with the Debt Capital Markets and Syndicated Lending teams within the Investment Banks. Our company provides an Investment Banking Management Platform to optimise performance, understand the markets, pitch for new business and execute deals.
The Position
The Relationship Team Manager (RETM) will be responsible for the direct management and resource allocation of the relationship team. This will involve hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, reviewing and developing the relationship staff as well as covering a small number of clients independently.
The Position Holder
The position holder should have previous experience of managing and mentoring a team, working at a senior level in a client facing role and the ability to proactively manage client relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage Client Relationship Team
- Manage all aspects of the client relationship team - structure, strategy, process, procedure and all client interaction.
- Manage Relationship Managers, set targets and goals. Provide training, mentorship, clear career path and guidance to achieve defined goals.
- Work with the Vertical Head to understand the full org chart of the team and provide every team member with a clear and defined career path with opportunities and requirements for development.
- Provide regular status reports so all staff understand where they fit in, where they are adding value and what they need to do to reach the next level.
- Work with the team to evaluate the value each member can bring and provide the right tools and direction to move them on.
- Oversee the resource allocation globally to ensure clients are effectively supported and relationships are growing.
- Provide defined training paths and ensure the team have a clear understanding of what they must achieve and when, as well as engaging relevant verticals to provide specific product trainings so that all relationship staff are competent and understand all markets.
Relationship Management
- Ensure Relationships Managers and Relationship Associates are connecting to clients at a senior level to understand their business. This understanding translates into how the company can add value to the client depending on their goals.
- Ensure that Relationship managers are strategic, innovative and creative in building client relationships.
- Identify and maintain deep and productive key relationships in each client.
- Act as escalation path for Relationship Managers on all clients.
- Assist Vertical Head in steering development on the platform.
Relationship Team Strategy
- Understand all clients’ needs and requirements and formulate a strategy and plan for the entire relationship team.
- Create client plans on an individual basis with each Relationship Manager and Associate.
Characteristics, Skills and Experience Required:
- 3-4 years of experience in working in a client facing role
- Experience proactively managing client relationships
- Experience managing and mentoring a team
- Bachelors degree in related discipline
- An understanding of the banking and capital markets
- Strong work ethic
- Analytical mind-set
- Excellent time management, communication, and organization skills
- Ability to work under pressure
