Modis is seeking a Senior Reliability Engineeer for a direct hire/permanent opportunity in Herndon, VA.

The company has an immediate need for a Senior Reliability Engineer in the area of Satcom products. The self-motivated, hands-on person must have extensive experience in the fields of reliability testing analysis using advanced stress test methods. This position will work within cross functional groups consisting of electrical, mechanical, optical, and manufacturing teams to develop, design, test, and qualify Satcom products.
The successful candidate must be qualified to evaluate the durability robustness of the material, properties, and techniques incorporated to produce the product. He/She will be responsible for advising design engineering on selection, application and test of electronic components and systems. As a senior team member, the person in this role will develop correlate new acceleration stress test techniques and analytical tools to assure the early identification of potential problems with new products, packaging, and processes. Failure analysis and analytic skills, such as Weibull analysis, will also be required. Expertise in thermodynamic principles and mechanics is highly desired.

Position Responsibilities
• Work on new project development teams for integrated sitcom products. Responsible for developing and implementing plans and processes that improve product reliability and performance. Work strategically with product design, development, testing and manufacturing to ensure that product reliability satisfies company specifications and complies with regulatory requirements. Provide reliability consulting, hardware test planning, test analysis and documentation to engineers and managers in RD, Manufacturing and Quality departments. You will utilize your in-depth technical engineering expertise to solve complex product and process reliability issues for company’s products.
• Define reliability demonstration assessment strategies and target goals for products design elements
• Create reliability test plans that comply with the project schedules, budget, technical requirements
• Develop document approach to evaluate new product characteristics based on industries best practices.
• Provide consulting expertise to RD and Manufacturing engineers to develop special tests, DOE, data analysis, reliability statistical analysis and sampling plans.
• Automate and extract relevant stress-test data and compile in format easily transferred to analyze product long term field reliability and quality goals, namely MTBF, MTTF, FIT, DPPM, Weibull Analysis and reliability growth models.
• Manage relationship, budgets, plans and schedules with internal testing and external test laboratories.
• Drive and manage execution of test plans with internal and external test laboratory partners.
• Ensure test plans are successfully executed/implemented and results are shared discussed and published to the development and program teams.
• Participate in data reviews and analysis to help determine actual or potential causes of failures and propose possible solutions based on experience and best reliability practices.
• Document and communicate test progress and results to RD, Product Engineering and program teams.
• Perform risk analyses and/or assessments when necessary
• Conduct Design-for-Reliability, Design for Safety and Design for Quality design inputs assessments
• Coordinate document Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) Process FMEA (PFMEA); drive corrective or compensating action for high RPN items
• Device and design testing of fixtures and testing tools as needed to enable test plans.
• Automate and integrate test equipment, test data acquisition system, and data-logging capabilities.

Qualifications
• BS in Engineering with 10 years plus experience in the field of reliability product test.
• Demonstrated experience in reliability planning, testing methodologies reliability and statistics.
• Demonstrated use of statistical tools to make data driven decisions (i.e. confidence intervals testing)
• Demonstrated experience in reliability failure modeling
• Demonstrated experience in experimental methods, life/accelerated life testing, stress and margin testing.
• Experience performing reliability qualification of electromechanical and electronic product-systems.
• Working understanding of thermodynamic principles thermal mechanics
• Proven abilities to successfully lead root cause failure analyses to proper long-term corrective actions
• Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve desired results from general objectives.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills: listening, speaking, and in writing. Able to express thoughts and concepts to a variety of people with different skill levels.
• Ability to lead reliability discussions with other engineers on state of the art reliability practices and tools.
