RELIABILITY SPECIALIST
Provide subject matter expertise to support the Luminant Fossil Fleet in the area of performance analysis and improvement. Develop, implement, and manage data pertaining to plant systems, subsystems and components and their relation to performance issues. Develop and implement inspection plans. Analyze inspection data, and coordinate corrective action plans with planned outages. Apply sound engineering judgment and knowledge to identify and resolve plant operational and maintenance issues. Create, trend and report Key Performance Indicators related to plant systems, subsystems and components. Develop and maintain a Continuous Improvement Program for performance issues at the Fleet, Plant and Unit level. Review unit and equipment efficiency, performance, testing, maintenance, and operational procedures, and make recommendations to improve the overall reliability of the fleet. The person selected for this position may help in administering the following programs: Corrective Action Program, Cause Analysis Program, Balance of Plant Life Assessment Reliability Program, Equipment Reliability Modeling, and Maintenance and Operating Basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent will:
- Actively work with System and Component Engineers and other Specialists relating inspection results and associated recommended actions.
- Provide technical basis for associated recommended actions and system or component health issues.
- Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and field data to develop and implement measurable programs to obtain lowest life cycle cost on plant equipment.
- Develop the Maintenance and Operating Basis for plant component; determine Best Operating Practices and applicable maintenance strategies.
- Develop and present regular and timely reports regarding performance characteristics.
- Provide management with cost effective options for resolving operation and major/minor equipment issues.
- Maintain knowledge base on latest industry technical advances and provide management with possible methods to integrate these into operational processes.
- Provide data development and manage data from various systems to effectively analyze data.
- Manage multiple task assignments to meet deadlines.
- Promote a team approach that effectively integrates the efforts of others. Identify and qualify outside resources (repair, engineering, maintenance, construction) for system needs.

Qualifications sought in successful candidates include the following:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or ten years of related industrial experience including progressive responsibility utilizing the responsibilities listed above.
- Demonstrates extensive design, maintenance, and operations knowledge of plant equipment.
- Knowledge of specific operations and maintenance lean tools is essential, such as just-in-time production, six sigma, problem solving techniques, 5S, SMED, reliability centered maintenance, and total productive maintenance, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
- Communications – Communicates clearly and concisely in written, verbal, and electronic forms. Effectively utilize communications skills to keep the client, the team members, team leaders, and support personnel informed. Preferred background and knowledge requirements:
- 5 - 10 years of power generation or equivalent energy industry experience, prior experience in inspection and repairs, equipment analysis, or maintenance. Experience in either the power or mining industry is preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
- Occasional long, irregular hours.
- Use of a PC, computer terminal and/or telephone over 2 hours a day.
- Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, and/or reaching to access job-related materials.
- Open workspace office environment.
SCOPE LEVEL:
- The incumbent applies best operating and maintenance practices and principles across the Luminant Power fleet. Primary interface is with Fossil Generation which consists of twelve (12) lignite/coal fired generating units at five (5) plant sites, nine (9) gas/oil fired generating units at four (4) plant sites, two (2) combined cycle plant sites and fifteen (15) simple cycle combustion turbines. The combined net generating capacity of Fossil Generation is in excess of 10,000 MW. Support is also provided to Comanche Peak NPP and to Luminant Mining, as requested.
