Reports Analyst – Research and Statistics recruitment

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks which, collectively with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., is responsible for formulating and executing monetary policy, and supervising and regulating depository institutions. Government Securities Dealer Statistics Unit Overview:

The Government Securities Dealer Statistics (GSDS) Unit collects, processes, monitors the accuracy of, and analyzes financial data received from primary U.S. government securities dealers regarding their positions, transaction, financings and fails in the U.S. government, federal agency, mortgage-backed and corporate securities markets. These data are used by the Treasury Market Policy staff of the Markets Group to monitor these markets. The Unit also collects consolidated derivatives data from major market participants which are used by the BIS. It also collects turnover data for foreign currency spot, forwards, swaps, and options for the New York Foreign Exchange Committee, as well as data on Tri-Party repurchase agreements for the Payments Risk Committee.

Responsibilities:

¨ Perform micro and macro analyses of (1) primary dealers positions, transactions, financing and fails in U.S. government, federal agency, mortgage backed and corporate securities markets and (2) derivative positions and transactions of major market participants;

¨ Analyze data to identify trends and inconsistencies;

¨ Work with respondents to resolve issues pertaining to data submissions;

¨ Suggest ideas for projects that will improve accuracy and timeliness of data reporting

¨ Develop and implement projects to improve the accuracy and timeliness of data reporting; and

¨ Undertake ad hoc projects and assignments, as required.

Securities Reports Division Overview

The Securities Reports Division collects, processes, monitors the accuracy of, and analyzes monthly transaction and monthly and annual international financial data which tracks ownership of securities held both in the United States and abroad on behalf of the U.S. Treasury Department. The data are part of the Treasury International Capital data series and are used in the preparation of the U.S. Balance of Payments and the U.S. International Investment Position, as well as for the formulation of U.S. and international policies. These data are used by the Treasury, the Board of Governors and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Job Responsibilities:

¨ Analyze aggregate data and prepare well thought-out and detailed analyses of underlying trends;

¨ Analyze individual respondent cross-border position and transaction data;

¨ Research issues associated with reported transactions and financial instruments;

¨ Research and respond to inquiries from respondents and regulatory agencies regarding reporting requirements;

¨ Participate in training seminars by assisting in the design and presentation of information on current reporting requirements;

¨ Identify workflow improvements and efficiencies and assist team leader during data gathering, analysis and resolution;

¨ Test system applications following test scripts;

¨ Assist Team Leader in preparing effective and efficient plans that reflect an understanding of the application, data, and process;

¨ Write and revise operating procedures, instruction, and training manuals;

Regulatory Reports Division Overview:

The Regulatory Reports Division collects, processes, monitors the accuracy of, and analyzes financial and capital adequacy information received from Bank Holding Companies, State Member Banks and U.S. Branches and Agencies of Foreign Banks. These data are used by the Bank Supervision Staff of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to aid in monitoring the safety and soundness of the banking system.

In addition, the Regulatory Reports Division analyze issues associated with large complex organizations researching information for cross-institutional and broad themes and trends.

Skills

Requirements:

¨ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or Business;

¨ Familiarity with financial instruments and capital markets;

¨ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

¨ Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, work well under pressure, meet deadlines and function with minimal supervision;

¨ Ability to think critically and make recommendations to improve workflow and service levels;

¨ Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills;
