REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report to the Portfolio Managers of Matthews India Fund.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking an individual to join the Matthews India Fund team to perform fundamental research and investment analysis in support of the Portfolio Managers.
Specially, this individual will be responsible for conducting both qualitative and quantitative analyses, focusing on industrial analysis, business models, products and services, management quality and competitive advantages for Asia Pacific companies.
The ideal candidate should have a high degree of integrity and professionalism, and experience working in an asset management organization.
- Perform fundamental research and investment analysis, and propose recommendations for prospective investments and/or existing investments in our India portfolios
- Conduct meetings both onsite and offsite (in India and other parts of Asia) including with company management teams, industry associations, regulatory bodies, consultants and the like
- Assist in collecting and organizing information on companies, industries or macro statistics with a goal of building investment cases
- Build financial and valuation screens/models, reflecting companies' historical and forecast performance
- Monitor performance of underlying companies in portfolios, and assist Portfolio Managers in stock selection/portfolio construction process
- Support ongoing and ad hoc research efforts; support publication of research periodicals
Qualifications required for this position are as follows:
- Bachelors degree is required, Masters degree and/or CFA preferred
- 3-5 years relevant experience in investment industry
- 1-3 years on the ground experience in India region OR experience with researching companies/industries in the India region, preferably in the investment management industry
- Keen interest in investing and a demonstrable conviction in India-oriented investment
- Solid understanding of financial statements
- Working knowledge of tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet
- Strong Excel skills are a plus
- Ability to articulate clearly an investment case in writing and speech
- Willingness to travel to parts of Asia
- Must be a U.S citizen or authorized to work in the U.S on a permanent basis
