Role Summary

We are presently recruiting for 2 Research Analysts in the Public Market Investments department. These positions respectively will be responsible for supporting Capital Markets and Global Corporate Securities within the Public Market Investments department. They will be involved with portfolio management and trading activities including assisting in:

1)Implementation of algorithms to determine portfolio risk within public capital markets on a real time basis, and creation of risk reports.

2)Development and maintenance of a securities database, including high-frequency and daily price data as well as financial statement data.

3)Development and implementation of electronic trading systems for the execution of high-frequency trades in the fixed income, equities and FX markets.

4)Development and implementation of quantitative trading strategies and back test platforms.

Role-Specific Accountabilities

Database Development (20%)

• Assist in the development of a comprehensive database containing the terms and conditions of securities held within capital markets and global corporate securities group.

• Assist in the development of a high-frequency price database to record intraday movements in the price of publicly traded securities.

• Assist in the development of a database to store point in time financial statement information for research and trading activities.

• Assist in the development of a database to store different kind of derived security measure for research and trading activities.

• Assist in the on-going maintenance of the database to incorporate new securities within the framework as and when they are introduced into the portfolio.

• Assist in the development of systems to monitor and record daily price changes and other attributes of securities contained within the database.

• Design and implement back-up and recovery procedures for the database.

Electronic Trading (40%)

• Assist in the development of electronic trading systems to effect trades in the fixed income, foreign exchange and equities electronically traded markets.

• Assist in the development of trading system based on the quantitative strategies using large amount of financial data.

• Assist in the development of front-end applications to record, monitor and report on trades executed in these markets.

• Assist in the development of internal systems to integrate front end trading systems into back-office settlement procedures.

• Assist in the development of systems to implement new market micro-structure trading algorithms to reduce transaction costs associated with such electronic trade execution.

• Research optimizations to improve response times and reduce system latencies where possible.

Monitoring (20%)

• Assist in the development of a real-time system to dynamically monitor the risk usage levels of capital markets portfolios. Monitoring shall include both automated warning systems, as well as user-interfaces to view current risk levels.

• Assist in the development of monitoring system of daily data quality that is used for the quantitative trading system.

• Assist in the creation of a daily system to provide detailed risk reports for each portfolio.

Other (10%)

• Other duties as assigned.

If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Mathematics 

• 0-2+ years experience in software development for the financial industry

• Experience with Bloomberg, and other industry-standard PTOMS

• In-depth involvement in major facets of the portfolio management process (e.g. benchmarks, index construction, portfolio risk determination, trade generation) is required

• Experience writing object-oriented programs in C++ and experience working with SQL and major relational database products such as Oracle, MS SQL or MySQL

• Knowledge of industry standard financial protocols (i.e., FIX) is required

• Experience with the following would be an additional asset:

   oOther programming languages, such as Java, Perl, kdb+ and Visual Basic

   oIntegrating with mathematics applications such as IMSL or MatLab

   oElectronically traded markets, and their respective programming interfaces

   oWriting efficient high-speed, multithreaded applications

   oWorking with low-level network protocols, and implementation of high-speed networks

   oWriting user-interfaces using Microsoft foundation classes, and GDI+

   oWorking knowledge with financial statement database such as compustat, CaptialIQ, worldscope.

• Ability to multi-task, and maintain attention to detail, in a high pressure environment

• Ability to understand and support organization/departmental change, and to be flexible and adaptable

• Builds rapport and relationships across PMI and assists in leveraging these relationships in conducting research and implementing investment strategy

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; articulates complex information logically, clearly and factually, primarily to Capital Markets

• Ability to work as part of a team in a high-performance culture; actively participates in team meetings, cooperates and shares information to contribute to the effectiveness of the team
