RESEARCH ASSISTANT II / 40 HOURS / DAY / BWH - DEPT. OF MEDICINE/RHEUMATOLOGY

Responsibilities: GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT: An opportunity to work on patient-centered care research at the Brigham and Women?s Arthritis Center. Our research involves a peer coaching program, educational seminars and a patient advisory committee. This position also provides an opportunity to work on small clinical research studies in the arthritis center. Under general supervision, works independently on a daily basis and reports to Project Manager and/or Private Investigator (PI) as needed and in regularly scheduled meetings. Assumes responsibility for the daily execution, planning and coordination of assigned projects, and maintains data quality, execution of computerized data management, writes documentation, and reports. Coordinates a variety of tasks and acts as a liaison to departmental staff and outside clients. Principal duties may vary over time with grant funding and project demands, and with skill level of other staff assigned to projects. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Runs the patient-centered initiatives program. This includes patient advisory committee meetings, a peer coaching program, a patient support group, and patient seminar series. Also is responsible for maintaining the IRB for these programs. (50%) 2. Plans the design and implementation of recruitment strategies; identifies subjects for recruitment, following study criteria. Keeps logs, and maintains up to date records on all research subjects. Contacts patients and collects data on subjects. For some studies, this includes the administration of a study evaluation. (10%) 3. Codes and enters data according to written protocol. (10%) 4. Assists with the production of newsletters, development of web content and online project communication. (10%) 5. Develops and assists with drafting formats for questionnaires, surveys, interviews and other instruments as needed for research projects, assuring ease in administration and accuracy of data entry. Also assists in writing progress reports and grant proposals. (10%) 6. Provides investigators with current references. Independently researches the literature and follows up on specific requests from research staff. (5%) 7. Performs all other related duties and assignments as required. (5%) Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Proficiency in writing; excellent verbal and written communication. The level required would be that obtained with a Bachelor?s degree. 2. A minimum of one (1) year research experience working with data collected from questionnaires and patients preferred. 3. No specific license/certification or registration is required. 4. Experience with Microsoft Access databases preferred but not required. SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 1. Keyboard/typing skills for data entry. 2. Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons with chronic disease in order to gain their cooperation in the research projects. 3. Must be able to prioritize and organize work responsibilities in order to meet deadlines so as not to hamper the progress of the studies. 4. Must possess integrity to maintain confidentiality. 5. Must demonstrate accuracy in recording data. 6. Must be able to make judgments under general supervision for the above mentioned job duties and responsibilities.
