The Research Associate is responsible for performing fundamental primary research as a part of the investment process for the Opportunistic Value Team. The role's responsibilities will include performing channel checks with industry contacts, analyzing industry trends, sizing product markets, and strategic analyses of various companies to help determine their competitive positions. The Research Associate will report to a Senior Analyst on the Opportunistic Team in support of their research process. The Opportunistic Team uses a unique fundamental process for their investment style so a willingness to learn and 'coachability' are key attributes that will help the candidate succeed. Other key attributes are a high level of intellectual curiosity, the ability to work independently and with minimal direction, while still maintaining a high level of productivity. A desire to dig beneath the surface and understand the true drivers of industries and companies will be necessary for success. Important skills for the role will include the ability to gather large amounts of information, decipher what is important and communicate that information in a timely and succinct manner. The candidate should be comfortable with mathematics and/or basic statistical concepts to help them present their findings concisely.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree is required and 1-5 years of work experience is preferred. Financial industry experience is not a requirement although the candidate should have a history of success in their academic and/or work history.
