Research Associate

 

Explora BioLabs is a San Diego-based contract research organization that provides preclinical pharmacology services to biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

 

Job Description As a Research Associate, you will be working under the direction of Project Manager and be responsible for the following:

 

• The physical environment of assigned laboratory animals.

• Performing routine animal health related tasks.

• Performing a variety of animal procedures to support company and client research projects.

• Maintaining accurate study records in a legible and organized manner.

• Assisting in maintaining inventories and lab and facility cleanliness.

• Carrying out other job duties, such as ordering, receiving and delivery.

 

A successful candidate must have the following:

• Bachelor degree in life sciences and 2-4 years animal handling experience.

• General understanding of animal welfare regulations and of the importance of ethical use of animals in research.

• Robust animal handling experience (mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits and etc; large animals a plus).

• Experience with:

              1) Various routes of drug administration (i.e. SC, IP, PO, IM and IV).

              2) Tumor measurements.

              3) Blood collection techniques (i.e. retro-orbital, submandibular, saphenous vein, jugular vein, ear vein/artery and cardiac puncture).

              4) Tissue/Organ collection techniques (i.e. organ and tumor resection).

              5) Survival and non-survival surgeries (i.e. cannulation and perfusion); stereotaxic surgery skill a plus.

• Ability to understand and follow schedules, study protocols, methods and SOPs.

• Ability to perform dose calculations.

• Strong organizational skills in performing assigned tasks.

• Ability to perform assigned tasks independently and quickly.

• Ability to write and describe procedures performed

• Ability to record study results and deviations.

• Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment (i.e. isoflurane machine, perfusion pumps, etc).

• Ability to operate a computer, must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

• Ability to solve problems.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-quality service environment (GLP experience a plus).

• Be detail oriented and able to multitask.

• Willing to work with infectious biologics (BSL-2 conditions).

• Willing to work on evenings, weekends and holidays.

• Flexibility to adjust work schedule to accommodate varying work loads.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Excellent work ethics and must be a team player.
